Yesterday, we had ten seniors having a wonderful time at the Winter Landscapes in Watercolor class with Lea Bäcksteiner, painter, illustrator, and installation artist. In this one-time session with Lea, we learned how to paint peaceful winter landscapes—snow-covered trees, frosty scenes, and the soft hues of a winter sky. We had a great time, thank you, Lea!

Coming soon to the Beech Street Center.

The public is invited to attend in person and take part in the Q&A following the presentation, which takes place in the Multi-Purpose Room . . .

Professor Jacqueline McCleary of Northeastern University will be in conversation with Yvonne Stapp of Science for the Public, as they discuss how the James Webb Space Telescope acts as time machine letting scientists look back almost 7 billion years ago to see the adolescence of the universe and how “gravitational lensing” causes a warping of space-time itself. Science fiction becomes science fact!

Yvonne Stapp, PhD, director of Science for the Public and host of this long-running science literacy TV show, will be interviewing Professor McCleary and lead the discussion.

This program will be filmed by the Belmont Media Center for airing on Belmont’s local channels and will be available later OnDemand at: http://scienceforthepublic.org or https://belmontmedia.org/SFTP

Science for the Public is a grassroots nonprofit organization, whose mission is to improve the public’s understanding of and appreciation for science. Modern democratic society depends on an informed public in a global community.

This special program is a co-production of Science for the Public, Belmont Media Center and Belmont Council on Aging.
