NC State University and Gaston College Kimbrell Campus in Belmont will lead a Department of Defense initiative aimed at improving production and performance of textiles used by the military.

The FutureTEX award launches the Defense Department’s ninth Manufacturing Innovation Institute, and includes $36 million in the first year and has a ceiling of $480 million over a decade. It will bring together industry, government, university and nonprofit partners to advance manufacturing technologies of textiles for military and domestic applications.

The Gaston County Economic Development Commission is pleased to announce that Textum, OPCO is expanding its existing operations in Gaston County. The project will involve renovating an existing 550,000-square-foot building and adding new advanced manufacturing machinery and equipment.

The project will create 34 new jobs, bringing the total workforce at the McAdenville facility to 82 full-time jobs over the next two years. The average annual wage of the new positions will be approximately $67,812, which is 24% higher than the county’s current average wage of $54,736.

The Gaston County EDC was proud to support Tuesday’s Kick-It Classic Tournament hosted by NorthPoint Development. The event raised an incredible $85,430, benefiting Bags of Hope and the NorthPoint Foundation—two organizations dedicated to supporting local children and strengthening our communities in many ways. We appreciate the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful event and the positive impact it brings to Gaston County.

NorthPoint Development has constructed more than 3 million square feet of industrial/commercial space in Gaston County, with an additional 1 million square feet planned at Gateway85. This investment has expanded the available building inventory which strengthens the Gaston County EDC’s business recruitment efforts, helps create new job opportunities for our citizens, and enhances the local tax base.
