Even with the rain we received yesterday the burn ban is still in effect.

Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

🚨 PUBLIC NOTICE: MULTIPLE CONTROLLED BURNS 🚨

You may notice smoke in the air today — this is due to a planned controlled burn being conducted in South Carolina.

🔥 What’s happening? Local fire and land management teams are carrying out a controlled (prescribed) burn to help reduce excess vegetation, prevent wildfires, and maintain a healthy ecosystem.

🌫️ Why is there smoke? Smoke is a normal and expected part of this process. It may be visible or noticeable at times depending on wind and weather conditions.

✅ Important reminders:• There is no immediate danger to the public• Please avoid the area if possible to allow crews to work safely• Individuals with respiratory conditions may want to limit outdoor activity• Keep windows and doors closed if smoke becomes heavy

🚧 ROAD WORK NOTICE 🚧

Beginning on Monday, March 23, milling and paving operations are scheduled on the following streets:

📍 Vesta St.

Residents are asked to please avoid parking on these streets during the work period to allow crews safe and unobstructed access. Work on each street is expected to take place over approximately two days.

This week Chiefs Hardee and Isenhour spent time in Washington, D.C. networking with members of congress. Meetings included Senator Ted Budd and Representative Tim Moore. The topics of discussion included the need for grant funding within the Belmont Fire Department and Gaston College Regional Emergency Services training center. Broader conversations included needs and priorities in the fire service as a whole. .budd

This past Saturday night, your Belmont Fire Department showed up in numbers to receive numerous awards during the Gaston County Firefighters Association awards banquet.
