This August, Plainfield Charter Township voters will be asked to decide whether to renew the Non-Motorized Public Trails and Recreation Areas Millage—the same millage that helped create nearly nine miles of paved trails connecting our community.

✅ The proposal keeps the millage at its current rate
✅ There is no increase in the amount taxpayers would pay
✅ Renewal would help protect and maintain the trails our community already built together

Since 2016, this millage has supported popular trails like Jupiter Trail, Rockford Trail, Jericho Trail, and connections to the White Pine Trail—giving residents safe, convenient ways to walk, bike, and explore close to home.

🗳️ The proposal will appear on the August 4, 2026 Primary Election ballot. Learn more about the ballot proposal, what the millage has funded, and what’s next by clicking the link in our comments.

Some important safety tips to keep in mind with more motorcycles on the road this season:

Summer riding season is well underway, and unfortunately, we’ve already investigated fatal motorcycle crashes and several crashes resulting in serious injuries. With much of the riding season still ahead, now is a good time for all of us to slow down and stay alert.

For motorcycle riders:
• Wear proper safety gear, including a DOT-approved helmet.
• Ride within your abilities and obey speed limits.
• Make yourself visible to other drivers.
• Never ride impaired.

For drivers:
• Look twice before changing lanes or turning.
• Give motorcycles extra space.
• Be especially cautious at intersections.
• Remember that motorcycles can be harder to see and judge for distance and speed.

Whether you’re behind the handlebars or behind the wheel, a few extra seconds of attention can make all the difference. Let’s work together to make this a safe riding season for everyone.
