Town of Turtle Fire Department

Town of Turtle Fire Department The Town of Turtle Fire Department The Town of Turtle Fire Department is made up of a group of dedicated and talented volunteer firefighters providing services to the citizens and visitors to our community.
(1)

We operate a fleet of six apparatus to serve the needs of our community and to provide support to our neighbors. We are an asset of our community that our citizens invest in every year through their tax dollars. An investment on which they hope never to take a return on. If they do need our services, we will be there for them in any way that we can. Our Department's goal is to deliver our service in a safe, timely, and well trained fashion. We strive to respond anywhere in our 42-square mile response area with the depth and knowledge needed to safely deal with whatever situation presents itself.

New Glarus Fire Department

In the darkest of times, there is light. This photo was shared with me by a husband and father that while he and his family were getting the first glimpses of the devastation a fire wreaked on their home, his son ran screaming in tears after his mother. A firefighter called to duty to fight the blaze in a neighboring town witnessed the inconsolable child, knelt down, and embraced him. The father saw his child calm and wrap his small arms around this stranger whom he instinctively recognized as there to try to help… and indeed he did, more than he could have imagined. Of all the things this firefighter was assigned to do this day, THIS was the most important thing that he did. This moment captured in time represents and demonstrates the good in this world, the compassion for one another.

While the fire took nearly everything of material value from this family, it has left them and us with something that is so much more valuable. An appreciation of life and those around us. The awe of the acts of kindness from a total stranger. A reminder that in the darkest of times, there is light.

The family has shared with us their amazement and gratitude for not only the first responders, but the entire community for the outpouring of support during this unimaginable time. While the family is dealing with having their lives turned upside down, they are finding comfort in their friends, family, and community, and because of this I cannot adequately put into words the pride I feel for not only those stand up and answer the call to make someone’s bad day a little bit better, but also the community I grew up in, live in, and raise my children in.

There are several stories of this day that I will carry with me forever. It is my hope that when I need them, I can call on them to remember the amazing things I've seen people do when no one asked them to.

Thank you to everyone. Stay safe and remember to always take care of each other. The smallest of gestures mean so much more that you may ever know.

So today we are going to share a little known secret about the Town of Turtle FD.

There is an elite group of volunteers within the department that is called upon twice a year for their very special set of skills. This morning, at 08:30 hours, the fire department called Grill Team 6 into action!

Their mission this Sunday morning was to retrieve the Pancake Grills from the Town of Beloit FD and set them up at the Shopiere Center for next weekend's PANCAKE FEED!!.

This task isn't as simple as it appears and that is the reason this special team was assembled. The grills are in fact very fragile in transit and require the utmost care. This team performed their task as professionals and completed the mission successfully!

The team will be called upon once again next Sunday to return the grills to the TOBFD. This is only after they receive a thorough cleaning and repair of any items that are out of order.

This is truly the public's first look into this team's operations. No longer will Grill Team 6 have to conduct their work in the shadows. They are to be commended for the professional services they offer!

Today during our Fire Department picnic some of our newer members took it upon themselves to do some training. I am not sure of the relevance of this evolution but I am sure it will come to me. 😁

You hear very little good about cops. Well here’s a feel good story. We’re just turned onto highway 43 from I90. Just as we got on 43 our tier went flat. We drove down past the construction and pulled over. As we got out of the car a cop from the town of turtle pulled up behind us stoped with his lights flashing so people knew we were there. He got out and helped Tom change his tire. He even got on his knees to help. He was a very nice guy. Very friendly. Thank you again I wish I had gotten his name.
Wow looking at the pictures of the pancake feed brings back many memories when my dad. Dick McCaul was fire chief for many years , I'm happy to see the pancake feed is still going strong
