The KBI and the Republic County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a home invasion and assault that occurred early Tuesday morning in Scandia, Kansas.

The Republic County Sheriff’s Office requested KBI assistance at approximately 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25. KBI agents and the Crime Scene Response Team responded.

At approximately 2:51 a.m. Tuesday, a female resident in the 400 block of Grant Street in Scandia called 911 to report that an unknown male subject had broken into her home and assaulted her.

Law enforcement is actively working to identify the suspect. The Republic County Sheriff’s Office advises area residents to remain vigilant, keep home and vehicle doors locked, and immediately report any suspicious activity by calling 911.

Residents in the immediate vicinity are requested to review any home security or doorbell camera footage for unknown subjects or suspicious activity recorded between 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, and 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25.

This investigation remains ongoing. No further information will be released at this time.

Stolen Tractor Recovered in Cloud County

The stolen tractor has been recovered in Cloud County after being found abandoned. The tractor was returned to its owner.

We would like to thank the public for their assistance and support in helping locate the stolen tractor. Information and tips from members of the community were greatly appreciated and helped in the recovery effort.

Thank you to everyone who shared information, kept an eye out, and helped bring this matter to a successful conclusion.

🚨 STOLEN TRACTOR – PUBLIC ASSISTANCE REQUESTED 🚨

On August 6, 2026, the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office took a report regarding the theft of a 1976 John Deere 4430 tractor.

The tractor was stolen from a farm located north of Asherville.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of this tractor, or information that may help lead to its recovery, is asked to contact the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office at (785)738-3523

On June 4th, 2026, at 845 p.m., the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 2197 290 RD, in rural Mitchell County for a missing 2 year old boy. With the assistance of many many different county’s, city’s, first responders and volunteers, at approximately 138 a.m on June 5th, 2026, the 2 year old boy was located unresponsive in a water filled creek located near the residence.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and all of our community during this difficult time.

On May 25th, 2026 at approximately 8:06 AM, a deputy attempted to stop a westbound Texas license plated SUV in the 3200 BLK of US 24 HWY for a traffic infraction.

The vehicle fled, initiating a short pursuit that came to a stop in the administration building parking lot of AGCO. Two male subjects fled on foot, with the deputy pursuing the driver around AGCO buildings, before losing sight of the driver as he entered the area of Ullom Truck Parts.

A second arriving deputy pursued the male passenger, quickly taking him into custody. A female passenger, took control of the fleeing vehicle and fled the immediate area.

Additional personnel from the sheriff’s office, as well as the following agencies converged the area setting up a perimeter.

Cloud County Sheriff’s Office

With assistance and use of the Automated License Plate Readers, an attempt to locate for the Texas plated SUV was posted to Facebook and broadcasted to law enforcement. Thanks vigilant community members, the vehicle was located near Beloit on 290 RD and the female was taken into custody.

A search of the driver was conducted with MCSO K9 Zed for the first two hours. Due to the vast area, difficult terrain, and the heat, additional K-9 units were requested and the following agencies were gracious enough to send their K9’s to assist.

While K9 units were searching the area, a perimeter unit observed the suspected driver emerge from the eastern wood line of Ullom Truck Parts. Shortly after the sighting, the remaining suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect was transported to the Mitchell County Hospital for evaluation, and then transported to the Mitchell County Jail.

The Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office wants to thank all personnel from the above agencies, and the community for their assistance with the locating the suspects.

A great reminder from Milford Lake. Have a great and safe boating season this year! We had at least one of these incidents happen last year at Waconda Lake, let’s pray it doesn’t happen again. 🚤 🏊
