Welty Environmental Center

Welty Environmental Center Join the fun as we foster an appreciation of nature through environmental education! Groups including schools, scouts, homeschool, 4-H and more are welcome.

The Welty Environmental Center offers environmental education for all ages in the Stateline region, from pre-K through adults. Annual festivals celebrating the natural world, along with school and public programs are offered year-round. The Welty Environmental Center is headquartered in the Big Hill Center near the entrance to Big Hill Park which is rich in natural and cultural history. Regular center hours are 8:30am-4:30pm Monday-Friday. Please call ahead as staff may be offsite with programs.

We had an awesome 3 days of our Geoscience Summer Academy with Hendricks CareerTek last week! We dug for fossils with a paleontologist, identified minerals with a geologist, and tested Welty's soil health with soil scientists (and underwear!).

There is one more Welty summer academy July 21-23, so head to our website to check out info about this FREE program for middle-high schoolers!

We hosted our first Sky’s the Limit Camp for autistic teens of the summer today! Our topic was all about our upcoming solstice and light; we made cyanotype prints, went on a photography hike, built forts, cooked s’mores in a solar oven, and checked out some prisms!

Summer camp is just around the corner, so lets meet the team that will make summer camp such a blast. Lets meet our Program Manager of Field Trips, Pam!

Pam has her degree in Interpersonal Communications with a minor in Environmental Studies. She’s always had a love and appreciation for nature, but after having children she especially realized how critical it is to teach the next generation how to love, learn from, and protect the environment.

Animals are especially important to her. In her spare time, she enjoys playing outside and having movie nights with her husband and two young kids, book club and brunch.

Summer camp is just around the corner, so lets meet the team that will make summer camp such a blast. Lets meet our Program Manager of Careers and Community, Charlotte!

Charlotte has degrees in Integrative Studies (Geology, History, Anthropology) and a minor in Biology and hails all the way from Houston, TX! Charlotte has enjoyed exploring the Stateline area and all its natural beauty. In her free time, she enjoys baking, hiking, and performing in dance and musical theatre.
