We're very excited and pleased to announce Mitchell County Tourism has been granted money to implement the Driftscape app, a self-guided tour app for attractions in Mitchell County! It has many different features that we believe will help make it easier for travelers to find what they are looking for in in the county.
Thank you to our summer intern, Kyan Offutt, for researching and writing the grant! This will be a huge asset to our traveler destinations in Mitchell County!
Thank you, Solomon Valley Community Foundation!

During its fall grant cycle, the Solomon Valley Community Foundation awarded over $39,000 in grants to 14 projects throughout Mitchell County. The following organizations received funding:

A recent geocacher said of the Waconda Springs, "a fun and historical area. I learned a lot!"

We'd love for you to see our Mitchell County GeoTrail! Find 10 of the 12 caches, stamp your card, and mail it or bring it into our office to win a prize!

It's a great way to get out and explore our area-and we bet you may see something new!

A little trip to Cawker City and Glen Elder!

For this week’s Friday Flights, KAKE’s Chris Earl checks out Cawker City and Glen Elder to see a massive ball of twine and a miniature Statue of Liberty.

Have you done Waconda Lake’s arrow hunt yet? It’s a great weekend activity for the family!

Each arrow color around the lake signifies meaning for the Native Americans. Learn about them at informational signs by each arrow.

Get out and explore!

Every afternoon this month I have posted about a FREE Kansas attraction or museum

The page devoted to the World's Largest Ball of Twine is the 5th most visited page on KansasTravel.org. The Ball of Twine is more interesting than it sounds and anchors a number of related things within walking distance.

One of the neat things about the Big Ball of Twine in Cawker City, Kansas is that you get to add twine to the ball.

We have a new geocacher that completed the Mitchell County Geocache Trail! Laurie is visiting from Denver and got 11 out of the 12 geotrail spots recorded!

“I learned a lot about Mitchell County that I never knew before,” said Laurie. “My grandparents had 4 different farms in the area, but never actually felt what they would have seen.”

Laurie was a delight to talk to and we’re so glad she got a chance to travel the backroads of Mitchell County where her ancestors are from!

She earned her Mitchell County Geotrail patch and a micro geocache for her to place.

We can’t wait to give a patch to you once you complete the trail!
