Belpre Public Library Its current building at 2012 Washington Avenue was completed in 1967 and is fully handicapped-accessible.

The Belpre Public Library (located on Washington Boulevard in Belpre, OH) is a branch of the Washington County Public Library System and offers a sizable collection, community programs, public computers, and more to meet your needs. Founded in 1795 as the Putnam Family Library (later called the Belpre Farmers Library), the Belpre Library was the first public lending library in the Northwest Territ

ory. In addition to the ever-growing collection of books, audiobooks, DVDs, and CDs, the library provides many services to the community, including educational programming for children and adults, classes, public computers, printing and faxing services, free wifi, a meeting room, and inter-library loans. It hosts the ever-popular Camp Buckeye, a once-a-week daycamp for elementary-school-aged children, on Thursdays during the summer, and runs multiple reading programs and drives throughout the year. The Belpre Library is dedicated to being a presence in the community--look for us around town during events!

We were a little busy this Tuesday, so here is a Trivia Thursday for you this week instead!

In 2025 our library offered 342 programs for people of all ages! When you combine the programs put on by all the libraries within Washington County system, we offered over 1180 programs!

These are only library-sponsored programs and do not include the many community groups that utilize our meeting spaces, so you can imagine how busy our libraries are!

Libraries aren't just for books, we also serve as a hub for our active communities and a place to meet new friends and discover new interests.

Dolly Parton was certainly a legendary entertainer, but what made her truly extraordinary had very little to do with fame. She spent her life helping children, supporting people in need, giving back to her community, and choosing kindness. To us, Dolly was one of those rare people who seemed like an angel here on Earth. The kind of person we should all strive to be a little more like.

Help the children.
Help the less fortunate.
Give when you are able.
Be good.
Be kind.
Leave the world a little better than you found it.

In honor of Dolly and her incredible commitment to children’s literacy, Wigal Hardware & Supply will donate 5% OF OUR SALES TOMORROW to our local library in Belpre.

It seems only right that a woman who spent so much of her life putting books into the hands of children be remembered by helping put even more books into the hands of children right here at home. The best part of working at the library is the community partnerships we make and the ability to serve every demographic of people here in Washington County.

The Belpre Library has a strong outreach with local adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and you may have seen some of our volunteers helping around the library or heard our often VERY enthusiastic art classes from the back room. Today we are celebrating the end of another year working together with a bash and a lot of bubbles!
