Belpre Public Library Its current building at 2012 Washington Avenue was completed in 1967 and is fully handicapped-accessible.

The Belpre Public Library (located on Washington Boulevard in Belpre, OH) is a branch of the Washington County Public Library System and offers a sizable collection, community programs, public computers, and more to meet your needs. Founded in 1795 as the Putnam Family Library (later called the Belpre Farmers Library), the Belpre Library was the first public lending library in the Northwest Territory. In addition to the ever-growing collection of books, audiobooks, DVDs, and CDs, the library provides many services to the community, including educational programming for children and adults, classes, public computers, printing and faxing services, free wifi, a meeting room, and inter-library loans. It hosts the ever-popular Camp Buckeye, a once-a-week daycamp for elementary-school-aged children, on Thursdays during the summer, and runs multiple reading programs and drives throughout the year. We love when we get suggestions from the community about what type of information is needed at our library, so we’re starting a new series called “How Digitally Literate Are You?” where we will highlight some common issues people face online like identifying AI images, recognizing email scams, and more!

If you want to participate in this weeks challenge, check out our bulletin board by the DVDs and take your guess!

Feel free to grab a bookmark with info about how to spot AI to help you make your decision!

💗 DOLLY DAY IS COMING BACK! 💗

After the incredible support for our first Dolly Day, we knew we wanted to do it again, but this time we’re giving everyone plenty of notice so we can make it even bigger and hopefully raise even more money for our local library!

📚 DOLLY DAY — SEPTEMBER 25

In honor of Dolly Parton and everything she has done to encourage literacy, kindness, and giving back, Wigal Hardware & Supply will donate 5% of ALL sales that day to the Belpre Library. And because Dolly Day deserves to be a little extra, we’ll also have:

🎁 Giveaways throughout the day
🧁 Sweet treats
💗 A whole lot of Dolly
📚 And another chance for our community to support our local library just by shopping local!

Our goal this time is simple: get the word out early, bring more people through the doors, and raise even more for the library.

As Dolly said:

“If I’m remembered 100 years from now, I hope it will not be for looks, but for books.”

In August, our little library circulated 4,391 items! Belpre's most recent population on the census was 6,728 people. That means we checked out a book for approximately every 1.5 people! And this August marked the second year in a row that the people of Belpre increased the number of items checked out in a month that many libraries start to see their back to school slump!

The more books our patrons check out, the more space we have on our shelves and the longer we can keep books that are not best sellers. So if you like an author and want us to keep them on the shelves, make sure you check out other books shelved near them to make lots of space!
