Belton families — if you have a new teen driver, this is for you.

Allyn Workman, a First Impact Health Educator, and our very own Officer Myers will be teaching a FREE First Impact class on June 9 from 5:00–6:30 PM at the Belton Curriculum Center at Southwick Stadium. This program helps parents understand Missouri’s Graduated Driver License (GDL) law and gives you practical tools to coach, monitor, and support your teen during their highest‑risk driving years.

You’ll learn what really puts teens at risk, how GDL laws reduce crashes, and what you can do at home to help keep them safe.

Speakers: • Officer Shawn Myers, Belton Police Department • Allyn Workman, First Impact Health Educator

Location: 813 W North Ave, Belton, MO 64012 Registration: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4EA5A92CA3FDC16-63790131-keeping (signupgenius.com in Bing)

05/20/2026

The Belton Police Department has recently seen an increase in juveniles operating minibikes, dirt bikes, 4-wheelers, and e-scooters on public roadways throughout the city.

Residents have reported riders operating without lights or helmets, and without regard for traffic laws, often during evening hours and in residential neighborhoods.

We want to remind the community that many of these vehicles are not legal for operation on public streets, state highways, interstate highways, or sidewalks under Belton City Ordinances unless properly licensed and permitted. Operators on public roadways, state highways, and interstate highways must also possess a valid driver’s license.

Operators of bicycles, e-bikes, and scooters are required to obey all traffic laws, including:
• Obeying traffic signals and signs
• Riding single file
• Using proper lighting at night
• Yielding to pedestrians
• Operating safely and responsibly

Parents and guardians are encouraged to discuss these laws and safety expectations with their children. Unsafe operation places riders, motorists, and pedestrians at risk of serious injury.
The Belton Police Department will continue increasing enforcement efforts in areas where complaints have been received. Violations may result in citations, fines, and/or vehicle impoundment.

We appreciate the community’s assistance in helping keep Belton streets safe for everyone.
