After 10 years of serving the Schor community, this is my last walk down the 6th grade hallway to my former LAL classroom. (I'm not crying - you are!)
πŸ”ΈοΈ
I am so grateful for all the amazing colleagues I have been honored to work with in that time. I learned so much and I'm a better educator today for knowing you all!
πŸ”ΈοΈ
To all my current and former students, you will always be one of "my kids" forever. I will always support you and send you love and light. May you always have the courage to know yourself, be yourself, and go after your wildest dreams.
Oh, and maybe read a good book every now and then. πŸ˜‰
πŸ”ΈοΈ
Starting next week, I'm off to my next big adventure, middle school librarian. Onward and upward y'all!

You are the kind of book
that has magical stories
trapped in every single page."

🌳 Trees are some of the wisest teachers I know!! 🌳
Some valuable lessons we can learn from the trees are:
1. Trees will bend in the wind so that they will not break. This adaptable behavior proves that flexibility is essential for survival. 2. Another beautiful illustration is a tree's ability to stand tall and firm above ground by establishing deep roots. This reminds us- as above, so below!
To strengthen my own roots, I like to read, meditate, make music, exercise, practice qigong, and write.
πŸ’How do you strengthen your roots??

So I got inspired to write this song last night while I was howling at the full moon. I'm currently calling it "A Rebellious Act".
I forgot a bunch of words but here it is anyways πŸ™ƒ

There's nothing better than getting to connect with the authors of your favorite books!
πŸ”Έ
Today I got to see these incredible middle grade authors:
πŸ”Έ
Sending a massive "THANK YOU" to all the authors for creating such engaging, relevant, and fun literature for my 6th graders to absorb. Y'all make my life so much easier because I have no problem hooking my students into books when I got all yours on my shelves!
πŸ”Έ
Happy reading everyone!

Isaiah Dunn is My Hero by Kelly J. Baptist

πŸ”Έ
Anytime a powerful story also includes a character who has a deep love for reading and/or writing I'm basically in LOVE!
πŸ”Έ
After Isaiah's (who is 10) father dies suddenly from a heart attack, his mother and baby sis, Charlie, struggle through the endless grief process. The family ends up "temporarily" living in a dingy motel which causes Isaiah to be obsessed with making enough money to help out his unemployed momma get $ for a new apartment. However this proves harder than he anticipates but y'all have to read to find out why.
πŸ”Έ
The main protagonist, Isaiah, is such a likeable character who you just want to hold in your arms and say, "It's gonna be okay sweetie." I love how he has a notebook full of stories and poems that his late father left behind that provide him not only solace but guidance too. It's amazing how powerful words truly are and this story is a great reminder!

The Lonely Heart of Maybelle Lane by Kate O'Shaughnessy
Rating = β˜•β˜•β˜•β˜•β˜•
πŸ”Έ
Have you ever read a story and just knew that the main character could be best friends with another character? Well that's exactly what happened when I read this book. Maybelle Lane and Felicity Pickly from A Snicker of Magic NEED to be in a book together! They would become instant friends!
πŸ”Έ
They have so much in common: both have absent fathers, both have trouble making friends, both have interesting quirks - Maybelle collects sounds and Felicity collects words, and both even discover that magic is all around us.
πŸ”Έ
Seriously though Maybelle is so likeable and relatable. She will make you laugh, cry, jump for joy, and even sigh with deep sympathy. This book is such a reminder of how hard it truly is to be in relationships of all kinds. The best kind come with no strings attached and no expectations just acceptance, understanding, and love. I hope that we all can find those types of relationships because we're worth it.

The great unlearn - relearn continues y'all!
I love my country and that's why so feel obligated to know ALL of it. I just finished two heavy hitters this past week.
πŸ”Έ
β–ΆThe untold history of the United States Young Readers Edition, 1898 - 1945 written by Olive Stone and Peter Kuznick adapted by Susan Campbell Bartoletti
β–ΆThey Called Themselves the K.K.K. The birth of an American terrorist group by Susan Campbell Bartoletti
πŸ”Έ
Man what a difference it makes to see a fuller picture of American history. Also I have to say I'm now a huge fan of Susan Campbell Bartoletti! The immense amount of research that she does for her books is commendable.
πŸ•΅Why didn't we use books like this for my history classes instead of watered down text books?
πŸ”Έ
I can't wait to pick up:
β–ΆHitler Youth: Growing Up in Hitler's Shadow
β–ΆKids on Strike!
β–ΆGrowing Up in Coal Country
πŸ”Έ
πŸ’What have you been learning about lately?
πŸ’Do y'all have some favorite authors who cover history? Send them my way!
