🍩 A big thank you to the Salvation Army Belvidere Corps for stopping by and treating our staff to donuts today!

Along with the delicious power rings, they shared the fascinating history of the Salvation Army's original "Donut Lassies." During World War I, Salvation Army volunteers traveled to the front lines in France to provide comfort, encouragement, and a taste of home to American soldiers. Despite limited supplies and challenging conditions, these remarkable women fried donuts for the troops, boosting morale and creating a tradition that continues to this day.

We appreciate the Salvation Army not only for the donuts but also for taking the time to educate us about this important piece of history and the organization's long-standing commitment to serving others during times of need.

Thank you, Salvation Army Belvidere Corps, for all that you do for our community! 🍩❤️🚔

National Police Week is a time to honor, remember, and recognize the men and women in law enforcement who have dedicated their lives to serving and protecting their communities.

Established in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which it falls as National Police Week, this week serves as a national tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, as well as those who continue to wear the badge each and every day.

During Police Week, we remember the fallen heroes who gave their lives in service to others. We honor their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to keeping our communities safe. Their legacy will never be forgotten.

We also want to extend our sincere gratitude to the dedicated members of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and all of our neighboring law enforcement agencies. Thank you for the long hours, missed holidays, difficult calls, and countless sacrifices made not only by you, but also by your families. Your professionalism, compassion, and commitment to public service do not go unnoticed.

To all law enforcement officers—past and present—thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your dedication to the communities you proudly serve. Stay safe. 🇺🇸💙

05/03/2026

National Correctional Officers Week is observed during the first full week of May. This year, it will be recognized from May 3rd through May 9th. Established by former President Ronald Reagan on May 5, 1984, this week honors correctional officers for their dedicated service and recognizes their vital contributions to society.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere appreciation to the men and women who serve behind the walls of our correctional facilities. Though their names and faces may not be widely known to the public, their impact within the law enforcement community is immeasurable.

A career as a Correctional Officer is one of pride, professionalism, and responsibility. It is not simply a stepping stone to other roles in law enforcement, but a specialized profession requiring dedication, strong communication skills, sound judgment, integrity, and the ability to effectively de-escalate challenging situations. Correctional Officers play an essential role in maintaining order, ensuring safety, and supporting the broader criminal justice system.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is grateful for the commitment, professionalism, and invaluable service our Correctional Officers provide to our community each and every day.
