Training Together. Serving Together.

Belvue Township Fire Department was proud to facilitate a regional training opportunity this evening provided by Ag Partners Cooperative.

Members from Pottawatomie County EMS, Pottawatomie County Consolidated Fire, Belvue Township Fire Department, Wamego Fire Department, St. Marys Fire Department, Onaga Fire Department and Westmoreland Fire Department came together for training focused on agricultural ammonia response and safety.

In rural emergency services, incidents don’t stop at jurisdictional boundaries. Opportunities like this allow our firefighters and EMS professionals to train together, learn from industry experts, and strengthen the relationships we depend on when a real emergency occurs.

A huge thank you to Ag Partners Cooperative for providing the training and investing in the safety and preparedness of emergency responders throughout Pottawatomie County.

Our Cadet Program is designed for youth ages 14–17 who are interested in learning more about firefighting, emergency medical services, rescue, and public safety. Cadets will have the opportunity to train alongside department members, participate in department training and activities, learn about fire and emergency operations, and develop skills in teamwork, leadership, communication, and public service.

As cadets gain training and experience, they may also have opportunities to provide appropriate operational support during emergency incidents under the direction and supervision of department personnel. Safety, education, and mentorship will remain the foundation of the program.

We will be holding an Informational Meeting on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 6:00 PM at the Belvue Fire Station. We encourage prospective cadets and their parent or legal guardian to attend. We’ll discuss how the program works, expectations, training opportunities, safety requirements, and the application process, and we’ll have plenty of time for questions.

A huge thank you to Firefighter Ethan Pardue for taking our SCBA bottles to Wamego to be filled and helping make sure our crews remain ready for the next call.

We also want to thank City of Wamego Fire Department Assistant Chiefs Brian Devine and Anthony Womack for their assistance, and the entire Wamego Fire Department for allowing us to use their SCBA fill site.

Strong partnerships between neighboring fire departments make all of us better. Sharing resources, helping one another, and working together strengthens our ability to serve our communities when it matters most.

As our Fire Department Medical Director, Dr. Milner’s leadership, guidance, and dedication help ensure our members are equipped to provide the highest quality emergency medical care to our community. Heart of Health Care nominee Dr. Jennifer Milner reflects the versatility rural health care requires. She serves patients in Wamego Health Center & Wamego Family Clinic, covers the emergency department, coordinates the Swing Bed Program, sees nursing home patients and serves as medical director for Pottawatomie County EMS.

A big THANK YOU to our Deputy Chief of Administration, Mike Jones, for taking Engine 554 to its annual pump test today.

Annual pump testing is a critical part of keeping our department response-ready. During the test, the fire pump is evaluated to ensure it meets its rated performance, maintains the proper pressure and flow, and is operating safely and reliably. These tests help identify potential issues before they become problems on an emergency scene, ensuring our firefighters have the water they need when lives and property are on the line.

Preventive maintenance like this may happen behind the scenes, but it’s an essential part of providing dependable fire protection to the Belvue Township community.

Thank you, Mike, for helping keep our equipment in top condition and ready to serve when our community needs us most!

The Belvue Township Fire Department is aware that a large portion of our fire district, served by Rural Water District No. 4, is currently without water service.

We ask everyone to please be patient with the Rural Water District and their contractors as they work to locate the issue and restore service as quickly and safely as possible. Utility repairs of this nature can be complex, and crews are actively working toward a resolution.

We also want to extend our sincere appreciation to the employees of Rural Water District No. 4 and their contractors for their dedication. They have been working tirelessly throughout the night and into today to restore water service to our community. Their commitment and hard work do not go unnoticed.

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning through 9:00 PM today, followed by a Heat Advisory through Monday evening, with an Extreme Heat Watch continuing into Tuesday evening.

Heat-related illnesses can develop quickly. Know the warning signs:

Heat Cramps
• Painful muscle cramps or spasms
• Heavy sweating
• Fatigue

Heat Exhaustion
• Heavy sweating
• Cool, pale, clammy skin
• Weakness or dizziness
• Headache
• Nausea or vomiting
• Fast, weak pulse
• Fainting

Heat Stroke – A Medical Emergency
• Body temperature of 103°F or higher
• Hot, red, dry or damp skin
• Confusion or altered mental status
• Slurred speech
• Seizures
• Loss of consciousness
• Rapid, strong pulse

If you suspect someone is experiencing heat stroke, call 911 immediately. While waiting for EMS, move the person to a cool area and begin cooling them with cool water, wet towels, or fans if available.

Protect Yourself and Others
Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
Limit strenuous outdoor activity to the early morning or evening.
Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
Check on elderly neighbors, young children, and anyone without reliable air conditioning.
Make sure pets have shade and fresh water.

Never leave children, adults, or pets in a parked vehicle. Interior temperatures can become deadly within minutes—even with the windows cracked.

Please take this heat seriously and help keep our community safe. A few simple precautions can prevent a life-threatening emergency.
