Today, we pause to remember.

Memorial Day is not just a long weekend or the start of summer—it’s a day to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Their sacrifice is the reason we’re able to serve our community, live freely, and gather with the people we care about.

At the Bemidji Fire Department, we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and extend our gratitude to the families who carry that loss every day.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

It was a busy Sunday for the Bemidji Fire Department, with crews responding to multiple wildland fires across our area.

You may have noticed aircraft operating overhead on some of these incidents. Aircraft are not used on every fire—when they are, it means the situation is larger, spreading quickly, or difficult to access from the ground. These resources help us slow the spread of fire, protect structures, and support firefighters working on the ground.

🚁 What this means for the public:
If you see aircraft being used on a fire, please stay clear of the area.

Fire apparatus, water tenders, and support vehicles need clear access in and out. Extra traffic, parked vehicles, or bystanders can delay response times and create additional safety risks—not only for responders, but for the public as well.

Our crews train for these situations, and bringing in aircraft is part of making sure we can handle incidents safely and effectively.

We appreciate your cooperation and support as we continue to protect our community.
