We have our DFL- endorsed candidate for Minnesota's 8th Congressional District: Trina Swanson!!

The Beltrami County DFL delegation of 8 was at full strength throughout the entire CD8 DFL convention held today in Lindstrom, with delegates swapping out with alternates to give everyone a taste of voting action on the convention floor. We're fired up and ready to get our great candidates elected this fall.

Now on to the State DFL convention in Rochester May 29-31.

Neither a Saturday nor spring time nor a light drizzle stays these fantastic Beltrami County DFL volunteers from the swift completion of ditch cleanup of two miles of highway 20 between the DNR headquarters and Hazelwood Road. And they're off and running! Today, Saturday, April 18, the Minnesota Senate District 2 DFL Endorsing Unit endorsed three outstanding candidates:

Dan Rogers: MN SD2 Senate
Reed Olson: MN HD2A House of Representatives
Emily Thabes: MN HD2B House of Representatives

128 delegates from the 8 counties that constitute MN SD2 in whole or in part (Becker, Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Hubbard, Itasca, Lake of the Woods, and Mahnomen) convened in Redby at the magnificent Oskiioshkiimaajitahdah facility to consider endorsement of candidates for public office.

The delegates also elected their party officers who conduct the business of the endorsing unit for the next two years: Chair, Curtiss Hunt; Vice Chair, Cheri Gunvalson; Secretary, Sue Kraft; Treasurer, Mike Albrecht; Outreach Officer, Renee Keezer.

A shout out to the volunteers who helped set up the convention and to those who served during the proceedings as registrars, tellers, sergeant-at-arms, timekeeper, and secretary. Special thanks to Eugene Standing Cloud for organizing the convention venue and to Amber Parkhurst and her staff for preparing the lunch.

Many thanks to Richard Carlbom, State Chair of the DFL Party, for driving all the way up from the Cities to show us his support.

Dan R. Rogers Announces Candidacy for Minnesota Senate District 2

Veteran Educator, Community Leader, and Advocate Launches Campaign

Bemidji, MN — Dan R. Rogers officially announced his candidacy for Minnesota Senate District 2, representing the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL). Rogers, a longtime teacher, farmer, and community leader, is stepping forward to champion affordability and opportunity for families across the district.

“Our constitution and democracy are only as strong as our commitment to preserving them,” said Rogers. “The opportunity to represent the citizens of this district is both a great challenge and a great privilege. I am committed to being a strong advocate for our community.”

Rogers’ campaign is committed to addressing key concerns impacting families in District 2, such as childcare, health care, housing, and the escalating cost of living. He advocates for affordable childcare, supports universal health care, and promotes the availability of affordable housing to ensure that all citizens are provided with stable accommodations.

Bringing a unique blend of experience as a teacher, cattle and hay farmer, logger, and an avid outdoorsman, Rogers is distinguished by his deep roots in the region. He has served as a board member for the MN Youth Soccer Association, coached youth soccer in Bemidji for 15 years, and is currently a director with the Hubbard County DFL. With 38 years of public-school teaching, Rogers’ commitment to service is well-established.

Rogers values his longstanding ties to the community. He and his wife, Cynthia, will mark their 40th wedding anniversary this summer. They are the parents of three adult children: Linda, the eldest, and twins Laura and Wesley. Their family also includes four grandchildren.

This program features Emily Thabes, candidate for the Minnesota House 2B. Emily will share about her mutual aid experience, including assisting families affected by the ICE raids in Minnesota. "We have to keep our eye on the news," Thabes said when discussing the needs of communities in Minnesota and how to respond.

Relocation of Beltrami County DFL social hour and executive committee meeting

Bemidji, Minn. – To accommodate the disruption caused by the snowstorm in Ponemah last week, the social and business meeting of the Beltrami County Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party originally scheduled to be held in Ponemah at the Boys and Girls Club has been relocated to the DFL office in Bemidji (1510 Bemidji Ave N). The date and time remain the same: April 8; light meal and social hour at 5 pm; business meeting at 6 pm.
