Timber Fire Update

As of morning briefing Monday August 17th, the Timber Fire is 5153 acres with 17% containment and 2067 personnel assigned.

Conditions were favorable overnight allowing firing operations to tie up areas along the southern edge of the fire along Partington Ridge.

Crews continue mopping up operations along the coastal side of the fire and address areas of heat along the Big Sur River, the fire remains south of the Big Sur River.

Fire activity was minimal overnight and crews continue to complete firing operations along the northern portion of the fire; improving and completing containment lines.

Today’s training focused on rope operations, quick rappels down embankments, and patient assessment. With winter approaching, we know we may find ourselves responding to vehicles that have left the roadway and ended up down embankments.

We’re staying prepared and making sure our personnel are fully trained to safely tackle any situation and protect the community we serve. 💪

Today, Ben Lomond Fire sent a crew in 2249 to participate in a large-scale controlled burn at Fort Hunter Liggett. Working alongside crews from CAL FIRE and the Fort Hunter Liggett Fire Department, our firefighters spent the day training in firing operations and helping safely burn more than 1,000 acres of hazardous summer fuels.

Opportunities like this are invaluable. Real-world training alongside experienced partner agencies helps sharpen our skills, strengthen interagency coordination, and better prepare us to protect the communities we serve when fire season intensifies.

We're grateful to the crews and organizations who welcomed us, shared their knowledge, and made this training possible.

While responding to an emergency call to help our community, one of our firefighters had his personal vehicle struck by a passing driver near the station on Hwy 9.
