**Single Vehicle Accident w/ Fire**

Just after midnight last night (8/23/2026), Abingdon
was dispatched to a single-vehicle accident on Piney Swamp Road reported with entrapment. While enroute, crews were informed that the vehicle was on fire. Upon arrival, crews found a single vehicle into a tree on fire and the occupants were already out of the vehicle. The fire was quickly extinguished, and both the driver and passenger were evaluated on scene and transported to a local hospital.

**Accident w/ entrapment and fly-out**

At approximately 1:09 p.m., Abingdon was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with entrapment in the 1600 block of George Washington Memorial Highway. Crews responded immediately, with Rescue 3 clearing from another motor vehicle accident to respond to the second incident.

First-arriving crews confirmed the entrapment, and a LifeEvac helicopter was requested, along with an additional ambulance from York County Fire Department.

The vehicle was stabilized, and crews performed a partial roof removal to allow for the safe extraction of the driver. The patient received lifesaving treatment, including whole blood administration by the LifeEvac medical crew, before being flown to a local hospital for further treatment.

We appreciate the coordinated efforts of all agencies involved in providing rapid and critical care to the patient.

**Motor Vehicle Accident vs. Bicycle**

At approximately 10:02 PM last night, Abingdon Fire & Rescue was dispatched to the 1700 block of S. George Washington Memorial Highway for a vehicle vs. bicycle accident.

Crews responded and temporarily shut down southbound traffic while medics treated the bicyclist.

The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

The scene was turned over to the Virginia State Police.

**Commercial Structure Fire**

At approximately 3:08 p.m., Abingdon was dispatched to the 8800 block of Guinea Road for a reported structure fire. The caller reported smoke coming from the crawl space.

Upon arrival, crews found smoke in the crawl space and light smoke inside the building. Further investigation revealed a small fire that was quickly extinguished and contained to the area of origin at the front of the building and within the crawl space.

This morning at 12:52 AM Abingdon was dispatched to RT17 and Providence road for a motor vehicle accident reported with injuries and rollover. Crews responded and found a single vehicle with heavy damage to the passenger side compartment and significant debris in a roadway. The driver of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Last night’s company training was divide-and-conquer driver/operator pump operations.

Our senior members worked on aerial pump operations, utilizing an engine to supply the ladder pipe, while our newer members concentrated on developing essential driver/operator skills with our brush trucks.

Driver/operator proficiency is critical to the success of fire suppression operations.
