**Smoke Investigation / Brush Fire**

This evening at approximately 5:48 p.m., Abingdon units were dispatched to the area of Line Fence Road for reports of smoke in the area. Crews were already operating on the scene of a significant motor vehicle accident when additional units responded to investigate the smoke report.

The fire was located in the 3200 block of Guinea Circle Road, where crews immediately began suppression efforts the VA Department of Forestry was requested for a plow unit, and York County Department of Fire and Life Safety assisted with their drone operations.

Firefighters worked for approximately three hours to bring the fire under control. The fire is estimated to have burned between 5–10 acres before being turned over to the Virginia Department of Forestry.

Due to the ongoing dry conditions, remnants of a previous fire earlier this spring continue to burn deep within the ground and duff layers.

The fire is expected to continue burning, and smoke may remain visible in the area until significant rainfall occurs. If visible flames are observed, please contact 911 immediately.
