Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when news of freedom reached enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Today, Juneteenth is a time to honor freedom, reflect on history, and recognize the ongoing work of building a more just and inclusive future.

At Habitat, our mission is rooted in dignity, opportunity, and the belief that everyone deserves a stable place to call home. Taking time to pause, learn, and reflect is one way we live that commitment in our work and in our community.

We’ll reopen with regular hours after the holiday.

🏡✨ What a gift last night was at Happy Hour at Timber Cottages!

Our homeowner panel brought the room to tears, laughter, and everything in between as they shared what affordable homeownership has meant for their lives.

They spoke about stability, financial freedom, raising their families, and finally having a place to call their own. Their stories were a powerful reminder that opportunity starts with a home. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped create such a meaningful evening. And a special thank you to our homeowners for sharing their journeys with honesty and courage.

As Redmond continues to grow, we all have a role to play in ensuring that affordable homeownership remains within reach for local families.

💪🔨 Women Build Week was powered by community.

In May volunteers contributed 488 collective volunteer hours to help move affordable homeownership forward in Central Oregon.

Every hour, every project, and every person who showed up helped build more than homes. Together, we build opportunity, stability, and a stronger future for future homeowners in our community.

As we continue celebrating Homeownership Month in June, Women Build is a powerful reminder that affordable homeownership takes all of us.

Thank you to every volunteer, sponsor, staff member, and community partner who helped make the week possible. 💙

🎉 Congratulations, Katie!

Yesterday, Katie closed on her first home, a goal she has been working toward for many years.

After moving 9 times in 5 years, and navigating rising home prices, higher mortgage rates, and other financial barriers, Katie found a path forward through Habitat’s homeownership program.

“Purchasing my own home has allowed me to get my independence back,” Katie shared. “And it means I get to have home stability and not have to worry about where I’ll live in the next 6 months.”

Now, Katie gets to settle into her new home, create her own safe space, and continue building a life in the Redmond community she loves.

This is what Homeownership Month is about: opening the door to independence, stability, and a place to call home in Central Oregon. 💙🏡

Applications are open for the final home at Northwest Cottages, located at 1459 NW Juniper St.
This 2 bed, 2 bath home includes a single-car garage and is part of Bend-Redmond Habitat’s affordable homeownership program. Monthly mortgage payments are tailored to each buyer’s income and may start around $1,800/month.

• 0% down payment
• $4,000 required at closing
• Minimum gross household income: $65,000
• Estimated completion and home sale: March 2027
Apply by June 21st

Eleven homes in Northwest Cottages have already been completed and sold. The final home is now under construction, with sale anticipated in March 2027.

Behind every busy build day is a community helping make the work possible.

We are so grateful to the local food donors who helped fuel our Women Build volunteers with meals, snacks, coffee, and encouragement. Your generosity gave our crews the energy to keep building alongside future homeowners and reminded everyone on site that affordable homeownership is truly a community effort.

Thank you for showing up for the people who show up to build. La Bonita Brunch, Jonny's Joint, Tite Knot Craft Coffee for providing breakfast for our Lead Volunteers and helping fuel the week from the very start.
