KNOW OREGON’S EVACUATION LEVELS

Level 1: Be Ready
Prepare to evacuate. People with disabilities, older adults, families with children, people without reliable transportation and anyone who may need additional time should consider leaving early.

Level 2: Be Set
Be ready to leave immediately. People who need additional time or assistance should leave.

Level 3: Go Now
Leave immediately. Do not delay to gather belongings.

Prepare now by keeping essential medications, identification, medical supplies, mobility-device chargers, communication supports, phone chargers and service-animal or pet supplies together. Plan more than one evacuation route and arrange transportation before an emergency occurs.

You do not have to wait for an evacuation level to change if you feel unsafe.

Afternoon Thunderstorms and Windy Conditions Prompt More Level 3 (Go Now) Evacuation Notices for Akawa Butte Fire

Deschutes County, Ore. -- Fire officials and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office have elevated more areas of the Akawa Butte Fire to Level 3 (Go Now) as of 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22. New zones have also been added to Level 1 (Be Ready) as hot and windy conditions continue pushing fire activity in various directions. Fire officials on the ground say current thunderstorms are causing violent shifts in wind and fire direction. The fire was pushing south toward Sisters, but is now moving east.

With conditions changing rapidly, the Sheriff’s Office recommends people use the Genasys Protect Map for updated evacuation areas: deschutes.org/emergency or protect.genasys.com

Road Closures Still in Effect:
• Indian Ford Road between Hwy 20 and Meadow View Lane

Social Drivers of Health are the everyday things that affect our health and quality of life, like having safe housing, reliable transportation, access to healthy food, stable income, social connection, and the ability to get the healthcare you need.

At Abilitree, this fits naturally with the Independent Living (IL) Philosophy. We believe people with disabilities should have the same opportunities, choices, and control over their own lives as anyone else. Sometimes the biggest barriers to independence aren't a person's disability. They're the barriers around them.

By helping people overcome challenges like inaccessible transportation, food insecurity, isolation, or difficulty navigating community resources, we're not just addressing Social Drivers of Health. We're helping remove barriers so people can live independently, participate fully in their communities, and achieve the goals that matter most to them.

Independence starts with access.

What is a Center for Independent Living? Simple: we are run by and for people with disabilities, and our job is helping you live life on your own terms.

People with disabilities call us for all sorts of reasons. Any disability. Any age. Any situation. Housing, health, work, benefits, getting around, or just not knowing where to start. We won't pretend to have every answer. What we will do is listen, figure out the next step together, and help you take it.

One thing we are working on right now: emergency preparedness. Wildfire and winter storms are part of life in Central Oregon, so we help people build a simple plan around their own life, get signed up for their county's emergency alerts, and stay connected with a monthly check-in if they want one. Before, during, and after an emergency, you are not doing it alone.

***CULTUS FIRE UPDATE: 4:30pm ***

Forward progress has been stopped on the Cultus Fire east of Bend in the Alfalfa area. The Level 3 GO NOW evacuations have been dropped to LEVEL 1. All other areas are back to normal status. Alfalfa residents in the neighborhoods near Juniper Road, Deschutes Road, and Fremont Road are now at LEVEL 1. Level 1 is BE READY. Prepare to evacuate. Fire resources and law enforcement remain on scene.

Evacuation notices. Level 3 Go Now! and LEVEL 2 - Be Ready Set

Due to fire conditions, the following area is at Level 3: All Alfalfa residents in the Juniper Rd, Deschutes Rd, and Fremont Rd neighborhoods.

🚨Level 3 means GO NOW!
There is extreme danger; evacuate now. If you choose to ignore this alert, know that public safety personnel may not be available to help you. Do not stop to gather your belongings or protect your home. Leave as fast as possible. Drive carefully. Turn on your headlights. Follow traffic safety warnings. Do not return to the area until public safety officials announce that it is safe.

After you evacuate, continue to monitor local social media, TV, radio, your telephone devices, and www.deschutes.org/emergency. Do not call 911 unless you are experiencing an immediate life safety issue.

⚠️Level 2 means BE SET:
Due to fire conditions, the following area is at Level 2: Homes south of Alfalfa Market near Dodds Rd and Walker Rd, and the Mayfield Pond area. Be ready to evacuate at a moment’s notice. Find resources at www.deschutes.org/emergency. Monitor local social media, TV, radio, and telephone devices. Act early if you might need extra time for any reason. Leave right away if you feel you are in immediate danger. If conditions change quickly, this may be the only alert you receive.

Flat Fire Update: Four Homes Lost, Several Outbuildings Damaged in Deschutes County

Damage assessments from the Flat Fire, as of Sunday, August 24, have confirmed that several homes and outbuildings in Deschutes County have been lost or damaged, while hundreds more remain standing thanks to the work of firefighters and proactive property owners. The homes and structures affected are spread throughout the fire area.

So far, we know of the following impacts:

✅ Residential structures destroyed: 4

✅ Residential structures damaged: 1

✅ Other structures destroyed: 6

✅ Other structures damaged: 1

Residential structures include both primary and secondary residences. “Other structures” include shops, barns, garages, sheds, pump houses, and similar buildings. At this time, all known destroyed or damaged structures are located in Deschutes County.

As of 11:30 p.m. on August 23, 2025, there were 827 structures located within and immediately surrounding the fire perimeter. This remains an active incident, and the number of destroyed or damaged structures could change as additional assessments are completed.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of homes and personal property and extend our sympathy to those affected,” said Deschutes County Sheriff Ty Rupert. “We are also encouraged that hundreds of homes have been protected thanks to aggressive firefighting efforts and the proactive work of property owners to reduce fuels around their homes.”

Fire crews and emergency management personnel continue to assess the area and notify property owners when a damaged structure is identified. We will share updates if the numbers change.

There have been no new evacuation orders today. As of our update from Saturday evening, all areas under Level 1 (Be Ready), Level 2 (Be Set), and Level 3 (Go Now) remain unchanged.
