American Legion and Auxiliary Stevens Chute Post 4 - Bend, Dept. of Oregon

American Legion and Auxiliary Stevens Chute Post 4 - Bend, Dept. of Oregon Meetings - NEW DATE & TIME! When: Every 3rd Wednesday at 2 pm
Where: VFW Post 1643, 1503 NE 4th St., Bend, Oregon

The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest veterans service organization, committed to mentoring and sponsorship of youth programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting a strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members an

d veterans. In contrast to other veterans organizations, the Legion offers a number of local programs and activities to strengthen its commitment to our nation’s grass roots and the people we serve. American Legion Baseball is one of the nation’s most successful amateur athletic programs; it continues to educate youths on the importance of sportsmanship and develops the quality of our country’s citizenship. The Heroes to Hometowns program is the only nationwide reintegration assistance service for wounded veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. Additionally, millions of dollars in donations have been given to fellow veterans and their families in times of grief, and various scholarship opportunities ensure the future success of our youth. The American Legion is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization with great political influence perpetuated by its grass-roots involvements in the legislation process. Legionnaires’ sense of obligation to their community, state and nation drives an honest advocacy for veterans in Washington. The Legion stands not behind politics, but the issues and people that institute progress by focusing on veterans rights and quality of life. The American Legion’s success depends entirely on active membership, participation and volunteerism. The organization belongs to the people it serves and the communities in which it thrives.

Welcome to summer in Central Oregon - hot, smoky and construction!

With that said, please take care of yourselves - stay indoors on unhealthy air days, hydrate and use UV protection when you are outside, and have patience in construction zones. That new pavement and new sewer line will benefit us all.

Come join us at our next meeting, August 19, 2pm at the VFW Hall at 4th and Olney in Bend...we'll have special guests Paige Press and her Grandmother Barbara. Paige will tell us all about her Girls State and Girls Nation experiences.

We look forward to seeing you!

Just a note to let you know that the picnic is still on for tomorrow, Wednesday, July 15 at 6 p.m. as planned at the Drury's - 63521 Boyd Acres Road. (Northbound on Parkway take the 135A exit to Bus. Hwy 97, then right on Cooley Rd., right on Boyd Acres.) Watch for sign on mailbox!

The weather will be too warm for some, so we are moving the food, seating, etc, indoors so everyone will be comfortable! There will still be seating, etc., out on the patio for the hardy!

Please bring your camp chairs so we will have enough seating inside and out!

Hope to see y'all there!

In case you missed it, here's a link to the video:

A Bend High School senior is headed to Washington, D.C. for Girls Nation, where she'll take part in mock Senate sessions and debates — a step toward her goal of a career in politics.

Our Stevens-Chute Post 4 and Auxiliary had a great time yesterday at the Old Mill Classic Car Cruz!

At the opening ceremony, Denny Shannon presented the flag for the Pledge of Allegience and Vivian Shannon sang the National Anthem.

We met some great folks and had good conversations with other organizations who support our veterans. Thanks go out to Karen Banks, Denny and Vivian Shannon, JW and Katie Terry, Tim Malone, and Denny and Yvonne Drury who manned our table and suffered thru the cold, windy day!

Greetings everyone and welcome to almost summer! We are looking forward to a nice Memorial Day weekend, and hope to see you all out and about.

We will be distributing poppies at Local Acres Marketplace and Jake's Diner for a few hours over the weekend. Please stop by for your poppy and a moment to share memories of friends and family who have served. Honor them by wearing a poppy - a 100+ year old tradition of the American Legion.

Thank you for your interest and support of our veterans!

I'm back home again in Bend from our winter in Arizona, and ready to help kick our summer Legion activities into high gear with some good ideas our Legion Family have come up with to raise awareness of American Legion and raise funds for veterans and active-duty families in need.

If you have the time or would like to donate to our efforts, please join us at our April 15 meeting, or contact any of our officers for financial ways to support our mission. Many hands make light work, and many dollars make a good impact!
