Canoe Trips & Wildfire Missions:

Sometimes fighting wildfires means going where fire engines, trucks, and even ATVs simply can’t.

Deep in northern Minnesota’s Superior National Forest, hundreds of lakes and miles of remote wilderness make canoes an essential part of the mission. Wildland firefighters use them to reach lightning-caused fires deep inside the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness—carrying their gear in, working the fire, and sometimes spending days in areas accessible only by water.

Rapid Emergency Management is proud to have Medic Jimmy Randolph embedded with the Minnesota Bravo Crew, an 11-person wildland firefighting crew made up of firefighters from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Department of Transportation.

These photos capture the crew paddling their way out after 11 days assigned to the Camp Fire, where they worked to locate and extinguish the remaining hot spots before finally beginning the trip home.

The crew includes Foreman Nate Johnson; Firefighters Sam Bull, Chris Emery, Nathan Trotter, Joe Sweet, Aaron Hoefer, Tony Murilla, Dawson Quern, and Landon Goble; along with Medic Jimmy Randolph of Rapid Emergency Management, LLC.

Wildfire medicine can take our teams to some pretty incredible—and incredibly remote—places. We’re proud to support the firefighters doing this difficult work wherever the mission takes them.

Sometimes our jobs are unbelievably awesome. 🔥🌲🎣

Our wildfire teams work hard in some of the most remote areas of the country, but every once in a while, the assignment comes with a pretty incredible perk—getting to camp in the wilderness, fish for dinner, and enjoy places most people will never get the chance to see.

Long days, remote locations, and always ready when called—but you can’t beat an office view like this.

While assigned to a private fire standby today, our crews remained diligent in continuously monitoring the surrounding area. Their attention paid off when they noticed smoke developing nearby and were able to quickly identify and respond to a pop-up fire.

This is exactly why situational awareness matters. Staying alert, watching changing conditions, and being ready to act can make all the difference in preventing a small fire from becoming a much larger incident.

RAPID Emergency Management on the front lines of the Fox Fire

Our crews are on scene in Baker County, Oregon, providing medical standby and emergency care as the Fox Fire continues to burn near Huntington. This wildfire has scorched nearly 70,000 acres, forced evacuations, and put hundreds of firefighters and personnel at risk on the ground.

Wherever the fire line is, our job is to make sure help is right there with it — supporting the crews working around the clock to protect this community.
