Guiding Principles:
*Understanding who you are is key to developing relationships and building community.
*Parents are children's first teachers and are essential partners in the education of all students.
*Creativity, leadership, and inquiry support the development of critical thinkers and problem solvers.
*The world around us can be explored through systems thinking. Studying systems helps
us understand both the interrelated parts as well as the whole. Both scientist and artists use system thinking as they:
-Observe
-Collect
-Analyze
-Compare
-Notice patterns
*The basis of learning is storytelling. Story provides context and perspective. Everyone has a story to tell, so we have an obligation to listen.
*Writing is an embedded practice. In order to explore new ideas and concepts and engage in reflection, students and adults will write frequently.
*Play is a critical aspect of school.
*The wider community provides multiple opportunities for authentic learning. Service and project-based learning engages students in their communities, fosters academic excellence, and promotes positive behaviors.
*Teaching and learning requires ongoing collaboration, inquiry, innovation and risk-taking, public practice, and sustained relationships. LEGAL DISCLAIMER:
