Update on Forest Fires: BENHAM currently does not have any active fires in the immediate area around city limits. Expect heavy smoke in the community from surrounding fires from Partridge, Letcher County, Evarts Upper Cloverfork area, Harlan County and reported fires in Perry County. If the situation changes we will update you on this account or the City of Benham account.

Please be vigilant and report any updates that you see. Forrest fires can be dynamic(change quickly) so make sure your family has a plan!

*PUBLIC NOTICE - Walking/bicycle trail in Benham - Now Strictly Enforced - NO ATV, DIRTBIKES, SIDE BY SIDE, MOTOR VEHCLES ON WALKING TRAIL- Citations will be issued

On September 6th 2023 The City of Benham met with Trail Town Task Force who oversees the use of the trail to discuss safety concerns of ATVS, Dirtbikes, side by sides and motor vehicles using the walking/bicycle trail. Trail town has specially listed that four-wheelers, side by sides and dirt bikes are not permitted on the trail - As the trail is private property of Trail Town - and trail town has now given Benham Police Department authority to enforce by way of KRS 189.515 Restrictions on operation of All-Terrain Vehicles subsections (3) A person SHALL not operate an all-terrain vehicle on PRIVATE property without the consent of the landowner, tenant, or individual responsible for the property- Since operating an ATV will put pedestrians who use the trail as risk- It will be a priority of Benham Police Department to strictly enforce. Citations will be issued for violating KRS 189.515 if you operate an ATV or motor vehicle on the walking trail.
