Reckless Driver call results in narcotics arrest.

Yesterday afternoon KCSO dispatch received a call of a reckless driver approaching Benjamin on Hwy82. Chief Deputy Castilleja responded to the area and located the vehicle. A traffic stop was made after observing a violation on the roadway. During the road side investigation a probable cause search was conducted resulting in narcotics being located inside of the vehicle. From the information obtained from the driver the substance is believed to be methamphetamine and will be sent to the lab for further testing. The out of state driver was placed into custody without incident for possession of a controlled substance PG1.

Safety for all citizens and travelers is top priority for this department. With continued help from reporting parties we can better ensure that our roadways remain a safer place to commute in and around Knox County.

This afternoon KCSO was contacted by a 911 caller in reference to an intoxicated individual on a wind turbine construction site. The caller stated that he believed the individual to be under the influence of narcotics and that he did have a firearm. Sheriff Embesi along with Chief Deputy Castilleja arrived on scene and located the suspect inside of parked vehicle next to a wind turbine. Officers made contact with the individual. During the investigation a 9mm pistol and a baggy of what appeared to be methamphetamine was recovered inside of the vehicle. The suspect was placed into custody without incident and faces a narcotics charge as well as a fi****ms charge.

Around 2AM this morning Knox City PD made a stop on a vehicle with multiple occupants. During the stop 2 of individuals fled the scene on foot. Deputy Thrash, Sheriff Embesi and our local Game Warden arrived in the area to search for the 2 that had fled, while the PD processed the original scene. The 2 males were ultimately arrested around the area of the school. For additional information regarding this incident contact Knox City PD.

This evening KCSO was notified of a pursuit that began in Dickens County traveling east on HWY82 of a stolen vehicle being driven by a possible suspect wanted for for aggravated robbery out of Lubbock. Sheriff McWhirter of King County pursued the vehicle into Knox County where he lost visual. Sheriff Embesi along with Deputy Thrash awaited for the arrival of the vehicle in Benjamin. The vehicle passed through Benjamin at 100+ mph. The suspect continued down 82 East bound into Vera where he attempted to go into wheat field. The suspect was apprehended by KCSO at that time.

This afternoon Sheriff Embesi was made aware of a catalytic converter theft in progress in Benjamin. Arriving on scene Sheriff located an individual in the front of the property. The individual made a story up as to why he was there. As Embesi began to detain the individual he began to run. Embesi chased the individual on foot along Hwy 6 catching him. The individual began fighting Embesi. As Embesi and the suspect fought on the side of the road a passerby assisted in successfully placing the suspect in handcuffs.The individual was transported to Knox County Hospital for medical clearance and will be charged with Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer along with Theft of Property based off the value of the converters.

On the night of 9-20-21 Munday Police Department and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at an address located in North Munday. Law enforcement arrived on scene where two deceased males were located inside of the home. After further investigation, the state evidence shows that one of the subjects shot and killed the other and then took his own life. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office assisted Munday Police Department in the investigation and extends our most sincere condolences to the family of the victims as well as the City of Munday during this tragic incident. We ask that you respect the family’s privacy during this time of mourning and come together as a community to offer comfort to those that may be in need. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victims during the hard weeks to come.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for two full time jailers. Applicants must obtain jailers license within one year of hiring date. Annual salary is $27,030 sick days, holidays, vacation and personal days are included, medical insurance is offered. Applications can be picked up at the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Embesi reports that on 6-29-2021 KCSO was contacted in reference to a man who had been shot in the early morning hours in Goree. Deputy Ryan Thrash was the first to arrive and located the victim. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and the head and was transported to a near by hospital. Sheriff Embesi reached out to the Texas Rangers for assistance in the investigation. After arriving on scene and collecting evidence the information gathered led to conducting interviews and ultimately leading up to multiple arrests warrants being signed for the accused.
One suspect, Kristy Rivera was arrested for the charge of Conspiracy to commit murder and issued a $750,000 bond. A second suspect Joel Melendez was issued the same as well as an additional charge of Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury and issued a bond of $750,000 as well as $250,000.

Melendez was apprehended later in the day after a several hour search in the Goree area.

Sheriff Embesi would like to thank all agencies that assisted with the investigation and arrest.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for the position of Telecommunications Supervisor for 911

Applicants must be able to obtain TCOLE telecommunicators license within one year of hire date

This position requires a through working knowledge of dispatch and telecommunication procedures. The individual is responsible for the supervision of the telecommunications operators on their shift when the telecommunications supervisor is not on duty. The individual has daily contact with the public, operates radio equipment, dispatches 911 calls, maintains communication records, completes validation reports for the state and is responsible for operation of the telecommunication center radio and phone recorder

Other duties include but are not limited to:

Scheduling telecommunications operators

Assist other agencies with confirmation or information

Assist with set up and operation of the 911 center during a natural disaster

Assist in maintaining accurate employee training records

Maintains communication with other law enforcement personnel including fire and EMS agencies

Operate as a Telecommunications Operator as needed, based on the needs of the Telecommunications Section which includes: Monitor all radio channels at console, receive information via radio, telephone and/or 911 and dispatch proper authorities as necessary

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos

Ability to write simple correspondence

Ability to effectively present information

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations

Process documentation from local and out of county, state, and national agencies as well as from county and district courts
