The life-sized inflatable whale model allows children to see inside the anatomy and life of a humpback named Nile, and is part of a summer reading partnership between the McCullough Library and the Bennington Free Library.

Join us for this community event to celebrate young readers on their accomplishments in Free Library and McCullough Library's Summer Reading program! A music performance by Zak & Sarah will start us off and then we will select random raffle tickets for each of the six prize baskets. There will be a cool treat and all attendees under 18 can select a free book to keep! Bring chairs or a blanket, pack a picnic if you'd like, and come celebrate with us. In case rain we will move to the Carriage Barn at the Park-McCullough House.
This is a free event and does not require registration.
Our Summer Reading Program was generously funded by The Bank of Bennington

ASTOUNDING! At the end of our Summer Reading Challenge, 227 of our youngest neighbors reported 347,726 minutes spent reading! Way to go, readers!
Young people, parents, and caregivers are invited to celebrate this accomplishment at our SUMMER READING WRAP-UP PARTY on Saturday, August 22nd at 5:00 PM at the Park-McCullough Historic Governor's Mansion . We’ll enjoy music by Zak and Sarah, frozen treats, prize basket drawings, and awards for the readers who tracked the most minutes spent reading. All young people who attend will have the opportunity to select a free book to keep.

Our Summer Reading Challenge and many of our Summer Reading events for young people were generously sponsored by the The Bank of Bennington.

Additional event sponsors were the Vermont Department of Libraries and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
