Representatives from Bennington Fire, Fort Calhoun Fire, and Omaha Fire attended Ponca Hills Fire Department's "End of Summer Bash," where they were able to share information about PulsePoint AED and PulsePoint Respond. It was a great event where community-minded people joined together to support the great work of Ponca's volunteers. Several of the civic minded attendees visited the PulsePoint outreach table and joined the expanding community of PulsePoint Responders across Douglas, Sarpy, and Washington Counties.

As added proof of PulsePoint's value, during last night's event, several miles away, an off-duty Bellevue fire captain, who is a PulsePoint Pro Responder, received an alert for a neighbor in cardiac arrest. He responded to the neighbor in need and provided CPR.

Join the community of life savers. Recruit your own potential rescuers by sharing information about PulsePoint.

Anyone willing to provide chest compressions can join this community of life savers. Dispatchers in all three counties can guide you over the phone, helping you to know when and how to perform chest compressions.

As you celebrate with family and friends, make safety part of your holiday plans.

🔥 Fireworks safety reminders:
• Attend a professional fireworks display whenever possible.
• Keep children and pets a safe distance from fireworks.
• Never relight a firework that doesn’t ignite.
• Keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby.
• Fully soak used fireworks before throwing them away.
• Never use fireworks while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

If you’re grilling, keep your grill away from homes, decks, and anything that can catch fire, and never leave it unattended.

🎆 Fireworks Safety Reminder from Bennington Fire & Rescue 🚒

As we celebrate with family, friends, and fireworks, please remember that safety comes first!

✅ Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby when using fireworks.
✅ Only use fireworks outdoors in a clear area away from homes, dry grass, vehicles, and other flammable materials.
✅ Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
✅ Keep children and pets at a safe distance.
✅ Light one firework at a time and move away quickly.
✅ Never relight a “dud” firework. Wait at least 20 minutes, then soak it in water before disposal.
✅ Dispose of used fireworks by soaking them thoroughly in water before placing them in the trash.

❌ Never hold fireworks in your hand while lighting them.
❌ Never point or throw fireworks at people, animals, or structures.
❌ Never use fireworks while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Remember: Even sparklers can reach temperatures of over 1,000°F and can cause serious burns.

Let’s work together to keep our community safe and enjoyable this holiday. If an emergency occurs, call 911 immediately.
