Bennington Fire & Rescue Bennington Fire & Rescue is a combination department with 17 career members and volunteers! Bennington Fire offers a cadet program for teenagers age 14-18.

Bennington Fire and Rescue is a volunteer fire department and services roughly 42 square miles of northwestern Douglas County, Nebraska including the City of Bennington and 6 square miles of southern Washington County, Nebraska. Yesterday afternoon, Bennington Fire responded to the 6500 blk of N 148th St. for a house fire. On arrival crews encountered fire in the rear, and reports of multiple people trapped. A second alarm was requested. Primary and secondary searches proved negative and one person was treated and transported to a local hospital. Bennington 601, 631, 640, 650, and 611 operated for approximately 3 hours.

Starting Monday at 9am, Hwy 36 will be closed from 132nd street East to Blair High Rd. This closure is expected to last 90 days.

Weather permitting, work will begin May 11 on the N-36 to N-133 junction, from reference post 16.0 to reference post 18.5.

N-36, from Bennington Road to N-133, will be closed during construction and traffic will be detoured.
Detoured traffic is advised to take N-133 to US-30 to N-36. The detour will be in effect for approximately
90 days.

The project includes milling & resurfacing, bridge repairs, guardrail replacement, and more. Completion is anticipated in fall 2026.

Thank you, Anchor Pointe and Stratford Park Elementary schools, as well as the Bennington library, for allowing us to discuss the history of the Bennington Fire and Rescue department yesterday morning. The crew spent a couple of hours talking about the department and the kids enjoyed seeing one of our fire engines up close.
