Happy New Year! Our medical supplies came in for our BLS training Institute. We will be applying for our DOH license in the best couple of weeks. 2023 is going to be an exciting year!
Our condolences go out to the friends and family of Dan White who passed away earlier this month. Dan sold medical supplies to Bensalem Rescue Squad for years. He was an excellent sales rep, paramedic, and inventor of some of our EMS equipment. Dan was also one of the greatest guys to sit and talk with anyone could meet.
BREAKING NEWS
On January 1st, 2023, Bensalem Rescue Squad and the National Institute of Emergency Care will be teaming up in a loose merger to share resources and increase our training services in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Bensalem Rescue Squad (BRS) was established in 1980 to provide 911 EMS service in Bensalem Township. Part of our mission includes helping our community to prepare for emergencies. In 1999 Bensalem EMS began project C.O.P.E. Project C.O.P.E. Has been training community members, EMS workers, Firefighters, and Law Enforcement Officers in CPR, First Aid, and various other disciplines such as Stop the Bleed and Active Shooter type training. Through Project C.O.P.E. and Bensalem’s American Heart Association Training Center, the squad issues nearly 10,000 CPR and ACLS cards per year in our area. Bensalem has also training over 1,000 first responders in medical response to active shooter incidents in the past few years.
The National Institute of Emergency Care (NIEC) was established in 1975 to teach various aspects of CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) to first responders and hospital staff. NEIC has been the premier provider of PALS training in the Philadelphia area since its inception. NEIC has also taught EMT classes. The NEIC staff has taught internationally in countries including Bulgaria and Chile. NIEC has trained many EMS providers throughout Bucks County including those in Bensalem. NEIC’s staff of over 100 instructors bring years of teaching experience, many of them are experts in their field.
Together BRS and NEIC hope to not only continue our work in the field but add EMT classes in Bensalem and expand our very successful Public Access Defibrillator program. This merger allows our teams to ensure a standardized training throughout the entire chain of survival from 911 call to admission at the hospital thus improving patient outcomes.
Look for exciting things to happen throughout 2023.
Santa stopped by to visit our annual meeting tonight. Somehow we all made the nice list this year.
Congratulations to our two newest paramedics! Igor and Brian both passed all of their tests and are waiting for official certification cards from the Commonwealth. One year of hard work completed by them to accomplish this goal. Great work guys!

Threatening skies over Bensalem caught on security camera.
On Sept 30, 2022 Paramedic Richard Slack retired from Bensalem Rescue after 21 years of service. Richard obtained his paramedic, haz mat technician, and several rescue technician certifications during his tenure with us.
Richard stood by the squad through many trying times, financial crisis, upheavals in personal, even the LODD of our good friend Danny Mac. Richard was always there and did whatever it took to get the job done in true Bensalem fashion.
Although we are loosing much organizational history and one of our most steady staff members. We wish Richard luck and all the best in his new endeavors.
Richard was a little rough with the kitchen wear and the local eateries have called saying their sales of fries has decreased dramatically this week.
Good luck Slackie!!!!!

Philips Medical trained our staff along with members of Bensalem Township Fire Rescue this week in the use of our new heart monitors.
These monitors have the most current technology and are expandable as the needs or our community grow. Innovation for now and the future comes to Bensalem
Finally some good news. Bensalem EMS took delivery this week of 8 new Philips/RTD Tempus monitors. These units were paid for by a combination of Federal and local grants. These will replace our old monitors that were over ten years old and at the end of life.
We hope the Tempus will bring emergency care to new levels in Bensalem with state of the art technology.
We are very sad to learn of the passing of Paramedic John Holstein. John was retired from the Philadelphia Fire Department where he was awarded Paramedic of the Year.
John was a part time member of our staff and a TEMS paramedic for many years. John was a great paramedic and even greater person.
