Nestled in the center of Bensalem Township in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, The Eddington Fire Company is one of six volunteer fire companies in the township. Our primary response territory comprises 4 square miles, with an approximate population of 20,000 people, and has a varied mix of residential, commercial and institutional buildings along with a portion of busy Interstate 95. We have approxima
tely 30 active firefighters on our roles. Ten of these firefighters are Gold Card members, which means they have 15 years or more of Active Service in our Company. These ten firefighters, as a group, have a total of over 200 years of firefighting experience combined!
Operating as usual
The Eddington Fire Company is currently operating at a fuel spill at the Conoco station at Lavender and 13. The delivery truck overfilled the underground tank.
Just before midnight last night, The Eddington Fire Company was dispatched to an Address of Fire (confirmed fire), with entrapment, at a house on Kings Lane. Deputy Chief 16 was first on scene and established Cornwells Command. Tower and Rescue 16 arrived quickly afterwards and effected the rescue of the trapped resident and began to attack the fire in the Living Room. The rescued resident was transported to the hospital by the squad. It was soon determined that the fire had dropped down into the basement which became more dangerous to the firefighters. Crews from Newport, Union, Trevose, Penndel and Eddington Fire Companies also soon arrived on scene and assisted with other duties to put the fire out and to perform overhaul. The Bensalem Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the fire. Crews wrapped up around 2AM.
The Eddington Fire Company E-28 and E-222 crews assisted at a religious bonfire on Saturday on RT-13.
The Eddington Fire Company E-28 and E-222 crews assisted at the old Armstrong School Property for the yearly religious bonfire.
Soon after The Eddington Fire Company returned from a dwelling fire in our local, we got dispatched to an auto extrication at Knights and Dunksferry Rds. Upon arrival, it was determined that everyone self-extricated. The call was held to Engine 28 whose crew was utilized for traffic control.

The Norristown Fire Department is now accepting applications to take the Entry-Level Firefighter Examination. Applications available online at norristown.org and in person at 1700 Markley St., Suite 104. All paperwork and payment are due before April 3 at 3 pm
This morning the crew from Engine 28 performed our at least once yearly visit to this resident’s home to put out his lawn fire. Seems that zoysia grass burns pretty easily from a possibly discarded cigarette.
Out doing hydrant drills with our new members that are in now and waiting to go to firefighter 1 class in the summer.
Tonight The Eddington Fire Company participated in a joint training session with the Union Fire Company - Station 37, Cornwells Fire Company - Station 16, and Nottingham Fire Company - Station 65 at the Bensalem Township Public Safety Training Center. Multiple stations were set up for various Search and Rescue drills. It was a very good training exercise.
In the early hours this morning, The Eddington Fire Company was dispatched to assist The Cornwells Fire Company at a multi-vehicle accident in the 500 block of Bristol Pike. The crew of Engine 28 helped with applying oil dry and with damming and diking to contain the spilled diesel fuel that had dumped out from the torn open saddle tank in the tractor. The driver of the Cadillac smashed into the parked tractor in front of its business causing this big mess.
Today Kim Mulligan from Bensalem Rescue Squad was at Station 28 to give our members and some of our family members our yearly CPR refresher class. Kim thanks so much for teaching this most valuable skill.
Thanks,
It is with heavy hearts that the Eddington Fire Company has lost our past member Joe Stauffenberg to a illness that he was battling. Joe is a great guy and will be missed by all. He joined the fire company in 1988 and was a member till 1992 then again from 1996 till 2000 when he retired from the company. Our thought and prayers are with his family, friends and loved ones during this very difficult time.
Rest in Peace Joe 🙏🏻
This morning 18 members of The Eddington Fire Company stripped E28-1 of its old hose and packed on all new hose. Now both Engines have all new hose. The new hose better assures that the handlines won’t fail while in use fighting fires and also protects our firefighters from injury if a failure would occur which is more likely with older hose.
Eddington Fire Company Cooking Tip: Always remove the plastic wrap from your ham before you put it in the oven!
Engine 28-1 responded to a fire alarm at the Presbyterian Home this afternoon and found a smoke condition in the second floor hallway. The Engine crew found the offending wrapped ham in one of the apartments, in the oven, and removed it to the exterior of the building. A fan was placed in service to dissipate the smoke.
The Eddington Fire Company would like to wish 3 of our new members good luck as they start their Firefighter 1 program next week at the Lower Bucks Public Safety Training Center.

The Eddington Fire Company sends a big Thank You to the Trevose Fire Company 4/84 for responding to the scene of the 2 alarm fire on Bridgewater Rd yesterday with Canteen 4. Everyone on the scene appreciated the hot food, coffee, hot chocolate and cold drinks after a labor intensive and time consuming effort to control the fire.
Even though The Eddington Fire Company had already spent over 8 hours on the scene of a 2 alarm fire in their local today (in fact we’re still in service on a fire watch), we could not disappoint the children who were expecting to see Santa Claus show up in his sleigh at the Bensalem Township tree lighting event at the Bensalem Town Center this evening. Our members love helping the citizens of Bensalem Township in both Fire Protection and Community Service!
Eddington Fire Company has been working at a 2 alarm fire on Eddington Box 28-6, at 1388 Bridgewater Road, since 9:18 this morning when the call was initially dispatched for a Water Flow alarm.
The Officer and members of the Eddington Fire Company would like to offer our prayers and support during this difficult time to the friends, families and the members of the New Tripoli Fire Company.
The fallen firefighters were a 59 year old firefighter, Marvin Gruber, and the 36 year old Assistant Chief, Zachary Paris, both from the New Tripoli Fire Company
2 LODDs in West Penn Township, PA, today. Both firefighters were with the New Tripoli Community Fire Company. Strangely, a third body was also found on the scene. That person was dead due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Keep the firefighters’ families in your thoughts tonight.
Crews on the scene tell Newswatch 16 that two firefighters who were trapped inside the house were pulled out and sent to the hospital but sadly later died.
E-28-1 responded to Bucks Meadows Apartments at 11:53 pm for careless cooking, crews placed a fan in service to ventilate the apartment and reset the alarm & a dumpster fire at Creekside apartments at 4:42 am crews went in service to extinguish the dumpster.
E-28-1 responded to an auto extraction with R-16 at Street road & RT-13 at 10:55 pm after PSP chase down I-95 ended up in this accident.
If you see Emergency Personnel working ahead of you on the roadway slow down and pull over !!
Continuing in the tradition that some of us have had the privilege of having the same thing happen with one or more of your kids joining the fire service in the same Station you’re in, our Chief, David Neil III, had his son, David Neil IV, with him on the same working fire at the Bowman Ave garage fire last night. It makes a Dad proud!
Tonight The Eddington Fire Company was dispatched to a reported garage at 2730 Bowman Ave in the Eddington section of Bensalem Township. Assistant 28 was first on scene and set up Eddington Command. Engine 28-1 from The Eddington Fire Company, Rescue 16 from Cornwells Fire Company-Station 16 and Engine 37-5 from Union Fire Company-Station 37 arrived on location at the same time, cut the garage door open with saws to gain access to the fire and placed handlines in service to extinguish the fire. While there were homes and other structures in close proximity to the involved garage, no extension occurred due to the efficient action of all crews on scene.

At 4:41 this morning, The Eddington Fire Company responded to the Firestone store on Street Rd for a waterflow alarm. It was reported by 22PD that there was a foot of water inside the building with water flowing out onto Street Rd. Tower 16 was first on location confirming the report. Upon the arrival of Engine 28, both crews then entered the building a found a broken underground water main flooding the entire building. Engine 28's crew gained access to the back of the building by cutting open a small garage door to let the built-up water escape. Aqua was called out to shut off the water and PECO was called to cut the power to the building since electrical boxes were underwater.

As the old E28 and E28-1 head off to their new home. It's always sad to see your old trucks leave, but we're happy to have our new trucks in service and will make new memories with them.
