Eddington Fire Company - Station 28

Eddington Fire Company - Station 28 The Eddington Fire Company is one of six volunteer fire companies in the Bensalem Township. We average 500 Engine and Ladder Company related calls per year.

Nestled in the center of Bensalem Township in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, The Eddington Fire Company is one of six volunteer fire companies in the township. Our primary response territory comprises 4 square miles, with an approximate population of 20,000 people, and has a varied mix of residential, commercial and institutional buildings along with a portion of busy Interstate 95. We have approxima

tely 30 active firefighters on our roles. Ten of these firefighters are Gold Card members, which means they have 15 years or more of Active Service in our Company. These ten firefighters, as a group, have a total of over 200 years of firefighting experience combined!

Just before midnight last night, The Eddington Fire Company was dispatched to an Address of Fire (confirmed fire), with entrapment, at a house on Kings Lane. Deputy Chief 16 was first on scene and established Cornwells Command. Tower and Rescue 16 arrived quickly afterwards and effected the rescue of the trapped resident and began to attack the fire in the Living Room. The rescued resident was transported to the hospital by the squad. It was soon determined that the fire had dropped down into the basement which became more dangerous to the firefighters. Crews from Newport, Union, Trevose, Penndel and Eddington Fire Companies also soon arrived on scene and assisted with other duties to put the fire out and to perform overhaul. The Bensalem Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the fire. Crews wrapped up around 2AM.

This morning the crew from Engine 28 performed our at least once yearly visit to this resident’s home to put out his lawn fire. Seems that zoysia grass burns pretty easily from a possibly discarded cigarette.

In the early hours this morning, The Eddington Fire Company was dispatched to assist The Cornwells Fire Company at a multi-vehicle accident in the 500 block of Bristol Pike. The crew of Engine 28 helped with applying oil dry and with damming and diking to contain the spilled diesel fuel that had dumped out from the torn open saddle tank in the tractor. The driver of the Cadillac smashed into the parked tractor in front of its business causing this big mess.

It is with heavy hearts that the Eddington Fire Company has lost our past member Joe Stauffenberg to a illness that he was battling. Joe is a great guy and will be missed by all. He joined the fire company in 1988 and was a member till 1992 then again from 1996 till 2000 when he retired from the company. Our thought and prayers are with his family, friends and loved ones during this very difficult time.
Rest in Peace Joe 🙏🏻

This morning 18 members of The Eddington Fire Company stripped E28-1 of its old hose and packed on all new hose. Now both Engines have all new hose. The new hose better assures that the handlines won’t fail while in use fighting fires and also protects our firefighters from injury if a failure would occur which is more likely with older hose.

Eddington Fire Company Cooking Tip: Always remove the plastic wrap from your ham before you put it in the oven!

Engine 28-1 responded to a fire alarm at the Presbyterian Home this afternoon and found a smoke condition in the second floor hallway. The Engine crew found the offending wrapped ham in one of the apartments, in the oven, and removed it to the exterior of the building. A fan was placed in service to dissipate the smoke.

Even though The Eddington Fire Company had already spent over 8 hours on the scene of a 2 alarm fire in their local today (in fact we’re still in service on a fire watch), we could not disappoint the children who were expecting to see Santa Claus show up in his sleigh at the Bensalem Township tree lighting event at the Bensalem Town Center this evening. Tonight The Eddington Fire Company was dispatched to a reported garage at 2730 Bowman Ave in the Eddington section of Bensalem Township. Assistant 28 was first on scene and set up Eddington Command. Engine 28-1 from The Eddington Fire Company, Rescue 16 from Cornwells Fire Company-Station 16 and Engine 37-5 from Union Fire Company-Station 37 arrived on location at the same time, cut the garage door open with saws to gain access to the fire and placed handlines in service to extinguish the fire. While there were homes and other structures in close proximity to the involved garage, no extension occurred due to the efficient action of all crews on scene.

BENSALEM POLICE K9 AND MOTOR PATROL SHOWS AT THE FAMILY FALL FESTIVAL

Bensalem Township is excited to welcome back both the Bensalem Police K9 and Motor Patrol Shows to the Family Fall Festival on October 1, 2022. Their performance will begin at 4:30 P.M.

The Bensalem Township K-9 Unit was established in 1962 and since has been dedicated to assisting the department and the community in a variety of ways. Currently the unit is comprised of four patrol dogs, three of which are cross trained in narcotic detection, one single purpose narcotic detection dog, and one explosive detection dog. Their patrol dogs assist the patrol division in situations that require extensive searches to locate hidden suspects, missing children, and discarded evidence. They are also trained to protect the police officers and apprehend criminals when necessary. The narcotic detection dogs are used to assist our patrol and detective divisions to locate hidden narcotics. Their explosive detection dog assists the township and the county with explosive detection sweeps, and suspicious package searches. All of the dogs have gone through extensive training programs and are currently certified by the United States Police Canine Association. These dogs not only assist in our fight against crime, but also help the department build a relationship with township residents through numerous community demonstrations.

The Bensalem Township Motor Patrol unit was established in April 2000. Members of this unit have been trained by the Philadelphia Highway Patrol. The Motor Patrol currently rides Harley Davidson Road Kings. The Motor Patrol is a high profile unit that participates in numerous dignitary and funeral escorts, parades and various community events in addition to the daily operations of maintaining public safety and service. The unit does also patrol the “off-road” portions of the township on ATV’s. Bensalem’s Motor Patrol unit was one of the first outside agencies to participate in the Philadelphia Police Hero Scholarship Thrill Show. In 2007 the unit coordinated the first “Ride for Heroes,” a motorcycle run through Bucks County that raises money for the Bucks County Heroes Scholarship Fund. The event was capped off with a thrill show where members of the Motor Patrol performed displays of precision riding and thrilling stunts. Many families and community members came out to last year’s Fall Festival and witnessed the Motor Patrol’s Motorcycle Thrill show.

In addition to the K9 and Motor Patrol Shows the Bensalem Township Department of Public Safety (Police, Bensalem Fire Rescue and Bensalem EMS) along with our Volunteer Fire Companies (Nottingham Fire Department - Station 65, Newport Fire Company, Cornwells Fire Company- Station 16, Eddington Fire Company - Station 28, Trevose Fire Company Station 4/84, Union Fire Company - Station 37) will have apparatus and equipment displays at the Family Fall Festival.

The lecture was very fun and informative, and was a valuable learning experience for everyone. At 12:39 hours today the company was dispatched for a waterflow alarm on Prince George St in the Waterside development, alongside Cornwells Fire Company- Station 16 and Eddington Fire Company - Station 28. Upon arrival we were met with a burst sprinkler pipe likely caused by the freezing temperatures. In this case a heater in the water closet did not appear to be turned on. If you have a heater in an area like this, make sure it is on. And if you encounter a frozen water pipe, never use an open flame such as a plumber's torch to thaw them. Always heat the air around the pipe with something like a hair dryer or space heater, but do not leave space heaters unattended. Thank you to Station 16 and Station 28 for their assistance.

Holy smokes what a crazy busy weekend!!

There was lots to enjoy in Bensalem, including an Open House at Eddington Fire Company - Station 28, a wonderful evening with Attorney General Josh Shapiro, and door knocking with Brian Sims and his gorgeous dog.

Nothing is more important than getting in front of voters to send our message, talk about real issues, and encourage residents to come out and VOTE!! I’m very grateful to have so many great candidates join us this weekend.

Just over 3 weeks until Election Day!!
We all have different definitions of a good day. A lot of good things happened on Saturday, but this is what stands out. I was at Eddington Fire Company - Station 28 today for their open house, which is always a good time (and countless thank you's to the men and women who volunteer in our fire departments). Their president, Mike DePero, asks me if I knew of anything that they could do with the extra food that was likely to be leftover from the event. I made a quick call to Alana Hardison for Bensalem School Board who quickly made another call on behalf of Lower Bucks for Change to Bucks County Mutual Aid. Before long, the food that was likely to end up in the trash, was on its way to feed homeless people in Lower Bucks County. Helping to make good things happen for the good of everybody... That's a good day.
