Bensenville EMA is currently assisting The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office in the area of Route 83 and Third Ave.

Third Ave is closed from Route 83 to Briar St. Plan accordingly and avoid the area.

Today in history, we remember the tragic crash of American Airlines Flight 191 near O’Hare International Airport, a disaster that claimed the lives of all 273 people on board.

On May 25, 1979, Flight 191 departed from runway 32R at O’Hare, bound for Los Angeles. Moments after takeoff, the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 lost its left engine, causing the aircraft to roll and crash into a nearby field off Touhy Ave in Des Plaines.

Bensenville’s Civil Defense was among the many agencies called to the scene, with team members spending several days assisting in the aftermath.

Southbound Route 83 is shutdown to all traffic at Hillside Dr, for a crash investigation in Wood Dale.

Please plan accordingly and avoid the area.

Tornado Warning issued for west central DuPage county until 12:27am. At 11:42pm severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes and extensive straight line wind damage were located along the line extending from near sycamore to near Elburn to Yorkville, moving northeast at 40mph.
We will ramain under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 1:00am.

The US National Weather Service Chicago Illinois has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for our area until 2am. A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to move across northern Illinois and northwestern Indiana late this evening and overnight. We will continue to monitor the storms as they move into our area. Residents should Plan accordingly and continue to monitor updates via your weather notification networks.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for portions of northern and northeastern IL until 2 AM CDT.

While storms are still 3-4 hours away, now is the time to begin monitoring the weather and make sure you are prepared which includes ensuring you have multiple ways to get warnings!

TRAFFIC ALERT

*6:00 PM Roadway is open but IDOT vehicles are still in the area of 290.

There is heavy traffic on north bound Route 83 near 290. All north bound traffic is being diverted. 290 west bound is down to one lane of traffic. Please avoid the area and consider an alternate route until the issue is resolved.

Multiple agencies are assisting due to an accident with an overturned semi truck on 290 west bound.
