Arizona State Parks strongly believes that social media is a tool for consumers and communities to receive updates. We believe firmly that social media must be a safe space for all participants to engage in full and fair dialogue. All posters are encouraged to agree or disagree on any positions on any of our social media outlets. We remind individuals who post, that children,

youth and families have access to all of these posts and we want to maximize participation that is free from intimidation or bullying. Name-calling, intimidation or bullying of other social media participants will never be tolerated. Abusive, excessively disruptive and harassing posts will also be considered prohibitive of the fair and safe space we intend to maintain. Posts with unrelated information or political agendas will be removed. We will monitor communications and take appropriate action in order to ensure that these policies are consistently adhered to.

Happy International Bat Night! 🌙🦇

Tonight we’re celebrating one of the most fascinating animals in our caves and ecosystems bats!

BAT FACT: Echolocation
Bats use echolocation to navigate and hunt in the dark. They send out high frequency sounds that bounce off objects, then listen for the returning echoes. This helps them “see” their surroundings with sound, locate insects, and safely navigate even in the darkness of a cave! 🦇

Bats are also important members of our ecosystem, helping control insect populations and supporting healthy environments.

So tonight, take a moment to appreciate these incredible nighttime explorers! 🌙🦇

🦽🌎 The underground world is waiting for you!

Did you know Kartchner Caverns was developed with accessibility in mind?

Our paved cave trails and handrails help visitors navigate the underground while also keeping guests on the designated path and protecting the delicate formations around them.

Kartchner Caverns is a living cave water is still flowing through the limestone and formations are still growing today. 💧✨

Discovered in 1974, Kartchner was carefully developed so people could experience this incredible underground environment while protecting it for generations to come.

😂 POV: The ranger catches you leaning on the cave wall…

Please don’t touch, lean on, or put anything against the rocks in the cave! 🪨

Even something as small as lint from your clothing can be left behind on the cave walls and formations. Over time, those little pieces of lint and other contaminants can build up where they don’t belong and affect the cave environment.

And if you accidentally touch or lean against a rock during your tour don’t panic! Just let your ranger know. We’ll flag the nearest handrail and write a report so the Cave Unit Rangers can locate the spot and clean it at the end of the day. 💧🪨

We’re not mad, we just want to protect the cave! ❤️

🦇✨ Even after life ends, the cave keeps the story.

In the Big Room, mineral-rich water slowly deposited calcite around a bat, eventually incorporating it into a stalagmite. It’s an incredible example of how the cave continues to change and preserve pieces of its own history over time.
