TODAY: CFD IN MUTUAL AID AT HUBBARDTON FIRE AS ICE STORM RECOVERY CONTINUES

HUBBARDTON – On the evening of Sunday, March 30, 2025, a fire broke out at an outdoor structure located approximately two miles up Monument Hill Road in Hubbardton, Vermont.

Firefighters from multiple departments quickly responded to the scene in mutual aid including Castleton, Hubbardton, and Fair Haven Fire Departments, along with Benson. Poultney Fire Department was on standby at the Castleton Fire Station.

The fire was reported around 6 p.m., and despite heavy bellowing of smoke and flames, no injuries have been reported at this time.

The fire scene was active with emergency crews from the various departments working together to control the blaze. A fire official on the scene indicated that while the situation remained ongoing, there had been no indications of major property loss or injury.

The blaze was located in an outdoor structure on a residential property, though further details regarding the structure's purpose or cause have not yet been released.

This fire comes in the wake of a challenging weekend for firefighters across Rutland County, which was heavily affected by a severe ice storm.

The storm left areas of damage, road closures and thousands without power across the region adding extra pressure on fire departments and crews.

For CFD, the weekend began with a large grass fire last Friday that consumed two and a half acres of land. According to Castleton Fire Chief Heath Goyette, the fire started due to tree cutting and brush burning activities.

The Castleton, Hubbardton, and Fair Haven Fire Departments have been working in the wake of the ice storm and related emergency calls.
