Additional Charges Filed Against Kenneth O’Briant Following Ongoing Investigation

Kenneth Wayne O’Briant was arrested late last month by the Benton, LA Police Department on charges of inappropriate interactions with juveniles. Mr. O’Briant is now facing more charges as additional victims have come forward during the course of the investigation.

The additional charges include:

• First-Degree R**e
• Attempted First Degree R**e
• Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile

With these charges added, O’Briant’s total bond has increased to $3,855,000.

The Benton Police Department, with assistance from the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office, continues to investigate this case to ensure that all victims are heard and that justice is served.

Steve Collier couldn’t dream 15 years ago that he would be sitting behind the desk of the Police Chief.

“I started from the ground up. When I started, I never thought that I would be a chief, but it’s just the way that doors opened for me,” Collier said.

It’s a mini miracle that the veteran police officer overcame serious injury to put a new shine on the badge of the Benton Police Department.

Looking for a career in Law Enforcement? Now's your chance!

The Benton Police Department is looking to fill 2 full-time patrol officer vacancies.

We are looking for officers to serve and protect our community. You will perform a variety of job duties, including patrolling the town to prevent crime and enforce town ordinances and state laws. When accidents or criminal activity occur, officers are tasked with investigating and assisting in gathering evidence and other vital information. Officers are expected to have a strong work ethic, integrity, good judgement under pressure, and a passion for helping others.

Duties and responsibilities:
Respond to variety of calls and emergencies
Investigate accidents, crimes, and violations of town and state law
Enforce traffic laws
Appear in court to give testimony
Serve warrants, make arrests, interview and book individuals
Patrol the town to protect individuals and property
Prepare and maintain, reports, records, and logs

Requirements/Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Must be at least 21 years of age
Legally able to possess and carry a firearm
Physically capable of performing duties (running, climbing, lifting, and potentially subduing and restraining suspects)
Must pass a thorough background check, medical and psychological evaluation, and drug screening
Able to pass the required academy within (1) year from date of hire

Prior experience is preferred, but not required

State supplemental pay is earned 1 year after graduating from the academy
