Today we introduce our new Chief of Haskell Police Department Richard Harkness. Richard had been serving as interim and officially took the title and roll a little over a month ago.
Richard brings to the table nearly 30 Years in Law Enforcement with a BS in Criminal Justice Administration, he is a graduate of the School of Law Enforcement Supervision – Session 50 (SLES – L). He holds many titles : Senior Law Enforcement Certificate, Law Enforcement Instructor, Fi****ms Instructor, Taser Instructor, G***k Armorer, ect.
He originally retired from Hot Springs Police Department where he served in many capacities including: Patrol, Traffic Unit, School Resource Officer, Patrol Supervisor, Special Operations Supervisor (To Include): Parades, Special Events Coordinator, Off Duty Employment Coordinator
Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Grant Coordinator, Traffic Officers, Downtown Patrol Officers, Housing Authority Officers
K-9 Officers, School Resource Officers and
Animal Services Director
He was the Professional Standards Supervisor managing a Fleet of 140 Vehicles, overseeing the Property / Evidence Clerk, maintained Equipment inventory, Tasers, Communication Equipment, Weapons, Ballistic Vests, Equipment Research, Purchasing, Building Maintenance.
Richard is already striving for positive change within the department. He is working on building a transparent operation with accountability to both the city government and the community. Let’s welcome Richard!
