If you've been following along with us this month, you realize that the need for foster homes is great, not just in our area but statewide (nationwide, even). We do realize that not everyone is called to foster but we're here to tell you that you are STILL needed.

Behind every foster family there should be a support system. A great support system very well could be the reason a foster family feels equipped to take in one more child. Praying, providing meals, stopping by with groceries, words of encouragement. Blessings upon blessings to a foster family who just needs to feel seen...and, perhaps, needs one less thing to worry about.

In addition, the kids in foster care need to feel seen and loved, too. They need mentors who show up and help them learn life skills or who are simply willing to invest their time because these kids are worth it. They need people to advocate for them and for more foster homes. This can be as easy as sharing posts to promote foster care awareness (like this one!).

Another incredible way to get involved is by becoming a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate). CASA volunteers are the voice for Louisiana's most vulnerable children, helping them find safe, permanent homes through dedicated advocacy and case monitoring. These volunteers are so crucial and we have a shortage of them in our area!

We don’t believe that everyone is called to be a foster parent. That’s not what you expected us to say, is it?

The truth is, being a foster parent is a special calling. Just like the body of the church is made up of many parts, with different people performing different functions based on their calling, we believe that the same can be said about foster care. We are all instructed to do something but that will look differently for everyone.

That being said, we believe that there are people who feel led to foster but haven’t jumped in yet. Maybe you’re waiting to be ready. Maybe you’re waiting for your ducks to be all lined up and in a row. If that’s you, we want to encourage you to pray about it. Seek God’s guidance and direction. Send us a message and have a conversation. Attend a foster parent info meeting. Talk to foster parents.

From experience we can tell you that you’ll never be ready. You’ll never have your ducks in a row. But, from experience, we can also tell you that it really is true– God doesn’t always call the equipped but he is faithful to equip the called.

If you’ve been considering foster care or just want to learn more about how you can support children and families in your community, this is a great first step. We’ll walk through the foster care process, what certification involves, and practical ways you can get involved.

DCFS released their statewide statistics for the 2025 calendar year and the numbers were staggering. Take a minute to look at these figures and really let them sink in–

7,449 children were served in Foster Care during the year
2,118 children were reunified with their families
634 children were adopted
1,965 number of foster homes that are open

So in 2025, 7,449 children were placed in 1,965 homes. Read those numbers again and don’t see a number, see children. Behind that big number are children who desperately need more people to say YES. More people who will provide a safe place for them. More people who may not have it all together but who do have love to give.
