Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District

Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District Monthly board meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 6
pm. The public is welcome.

Soil and Water Conservation districts have served Illinois resource protection needs since 1938 when the Dust Bowl prompted Congress to encourage the states to establish a program to assure that the country would never again experience such a catastrophic and devasting event. Illinois met the challenge by enacting the Soil and Water Conservation Districts Act (70 ILCS 405). SWCDs were originally f

ormed with one goal - control soil erosion. SWCDs provide the administrative and technical services which are a necessity for the programs to succeed. We have worked very diligently helping reduce soil erosion to tolerable limits on more than 90% of the state's agricultural acres.

Get your pressure canner tested for FREE by Illinois Extension!

A pressure canning tester is a calibration device used to check the accuracy of dial-gauge pressure canners. Over time, gauge needles can become inaccurate, which can lead to under-processed foods and an increased risk of harmful bacteria like botulism.

We currently offer pressure canner testing at our Franklin, Jackson, Randolph, and Williamson county offices, but we will offer it at all of our locations soon.

All pressure canner testing will be done by appointment only. You can call our offices to schedule your appointment today!
