Three Decades of Dedication, Leadership, and Service

Thirty years ago, a young jailer walked into the former Benton County Jail for her first day on the job. She had no way of knowing that decades later, she'd be one of the most trusted voices at the Benton County Sheriff's Office, a mentor to countless coworkers, and a name known throughout the community she's spent her whole career serving. That person is Lieutenant Shannon Jenkins, and today we celebrate her milestone anniversary with the Sheriff's Office.

How do you begin to sum up a career like hers? The truth is, you can't. No announcement, no matter how thorough, could fully capture everything this woman has done, the lives she's touched, the knowledge she's built, and the difference she's made across her time serving Benton County.

Lieutenant Jenkins began her career in 1996 as a jailer at the former Benton County Jail. From day one, she showed the professionalism and determination that would come to define her career, and she soon advanced to the Patrol Division, specializing in Civil Operations. She continued taking on more responsibility, serving as Civil Sergeant and later Administrative Sergeant, meeting each new challenge head on.

In 2017, she was appointed Public Information Officer, combining her law enforcement experience with her exceptional communication skills. As PIO, she leads the Public Relations Division and serves as the primary connection between the Sheriff's Office, local media, and the Associated Press, handling the fast pace of that job with professionalism, credibility, and a healthy dose of patience.

Through her leadership, she's helped strengthen the relationship between BCSO and the community it serves, promoting transparency and trust so the public stays informed and connected. She's also deeply committed to the Sheriff's Office Community First initiative, serving on numerous boards and committees and always looking for ways to mentor others and build relationships throughout Benton County.

Along the way, Lieutenant Jenkins has been a coworker, supervisor, mentor, trainer, spokesperson, and trusted representative of the Sheriff's Office. She's witnessed tremendous change in law enforcement, technology, and community relations, and through it all she's adapted, grown, and stayed committed to the mission of serving others.

And after all this time, she's earned something every veteran of the profession understands: the wisdom that comes with having seen it all, and the stories to prove it.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL TRAFFIC SAFETY TIPS

School is back, which means more buses, pedestrians, bicycles, and busy drop off lines. Help keep our students, families, and school staff safe with these simple reminders:

• Slow down in school zones and watch for reduced speed limits.
• Stop for school buses when their red lights are flashing and stop arm is extended.
• Watch for children crossing the road, especially near crosswalks and school entrances.
• Put the phone down and stay focused on the road.
• Give yourself extra time during morning and afternoon drop-off and pickup.
• Be patient in school traffic. A few extra minutes can make a big difference.
• Look twice before pulling away from curbs, driveways, or parking spaces.
• Buckle up every trip every passenger, every time.

What started in 2011 as a small garden with a simple purpose has grown into something truly special. Under the leadership of Sheriff Shawn Holloway, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office Garden Program has become a place of hope, hard work, and second chances.

Every seed planted represents more than a harvest. For the inmates who work in the garden each day, it’s a chance to learn responsibility, build a strong work ethic, and take pride in doing something that helps others. It’s a reminder that hard work matters, and that even small efforts can make a big difference.

The impact reaches far beyond the garden rows. Fresh produce is donated to local food pantries and organizations throughout our community, helping provide nutritious food to families in need. What grows through dedication and teamwork is given back to the community, creating a cycle of service that benefits everyone.

This program would not be possible without the generosity of our community. The individuals, businesses, and organizations that donate seeds and gardening supplies help make each season possible. Their support helps grow more than vegetables, it helps grow hope, purpose, and opportunity.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office Garden Program is more than a place where food is grown. It’s a place where character is built, lessons are learned, and lives are given the chance to change. U.S. Secret Service-Led Operation Removes Seven Card Skimming Devices in Arkansas

The Benton County Sheriff's Office, along with the U.S. Secret Service and numerous federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, participated in a payment card skimming outreach operation across Central and Northwest Arkansas on July 14–16.
During the operation, teams visited more than 800 businesses, inspected over 9,000 point-of-sale terminals, gas pumps, and ATMs, and removed seven illegal skimming devices, preventing an estimated $7.3 million in potential fraud losses.

In addition to identifying and removing skimming devices, officers provided businesses with educational materials on payment card skimming and Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) fraud to help prevent future incidents.

The Benton County Sheriff's Office also provided logistical support and hosted participating law enforcement personnel during the operation. The effort included assistance from numerous federal, state, and local agencies working together to protect Arkansas businesses and consumers.

Consumers can help protect themselves by inspecting card readers before use, choosing tap-to-pay or chip-enabled cards whenever possible, covering the keypad when entering a PIN, and monitoring their accounts for unauthorized transactions.
