About: Water for Good is a faith-based, non-profit organization committed to creating a future where no one dies from a preventable waterborne disease. In partnership with local churches and leaders, we help communities establish access to reliable water and critical sanitation and hygiene practices—ensuring sustainable change, empowered citizens, and healthy futures. he water crisis is unsustainable, impacting 703 million people who lack access to basic water services. Every two minutes, a child under the age of five dies from a preventable waterborne disease. When 1-in-12 people around the world lack reliable access to safe water and 1-in-5 lack access to a toilet, they also lack the opportunity to truly thrive. Women and children are particularly disadvantaged, often spending hours collecting water that may not even be safe to drink. It affects health, hinders education, perpetuates poverty, and deepens inequality. But together, we can be a source for change that ends the crisis so every child experiences safe water, a healthy community, and God's love.

3 years can make a massive impact.

From July 2022 to June 2025, our Dodola, Ethiopia team worked alongside local communities to deliver sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene solutions. The endline results are finally in, and the numbers speak for themselves:

🔹 Childhood diarrhea rates dropped from 31% to 1.0%
🔹 Water fetching time reduced from 86 mins to just 19 mins
🔹 100% of target villages certified Open Defecation Free (82 total!)
🔹 Missed work due to illness dropped to under 1%

When tragedy took away her home and left her family stripped down to almost nothing, 47-year-old street food vendor Ear thought her story was essentially over.

Day after day in rural Cambodia, she carried the heavy weight of raising her child alone while facing severe financial hardship, illness, and isolation.

"Life became so painful that there were times when we felt like giving up completely," Ear recalled.

Then, Water for Good's local partners and church leaders stepped in. It didn't just transform her physical home and bring safe drinking water 💧 to her family—it set off an unexpected chain reaction that reached all the way into a situation her family thought was helpless.

When school test scores started dropping in certain districts of Shinyanga, Tanzania, local leaders did something innovative: they launched an environmental study to see what was happening in those areas.

The data revealed a clear culprit: lack of safe water. 💧

Regional Commissioner Mboni Mhita shared with us that when water is scarce, young girls bear the burden. Instead of sitting at a desk, they spend their mornings walking miles for water, keeping them trapped in a cycle of missing school.

But when we partner with local teams to bring reliable, safe water directly to a school, everything shifts. Attendance skyrockets, grades rise, and girls take their seats back in the classroom.

What does real, lasting change look like? It looks like a community taking full ownership of its own future. 🤝

A community handover is the turning point where the responsibility and management of new infrastructure and healthy habits—like water points and sanitation facilities—are officially transferred to local leaders and residents. It’s how we ensure these systems serve families for generations.

In the Shinyanga District of Tanzania, this transition recently became a reality at Masekelo Primary School and Sumbigu Dispensary. These facilities now provide safe water and dignified hygiene spaces managed entirely by the community.

In a handwritten letter to our team, 14-year-old Yusuph shared his favorite things and his hopes for the school year. Reading his words reminds us that kids are kids everywhere—and every child belongs in a classroom.

He loves football ⚽️, eating his favorite foods, the color red, and he is thankful for access to safe water which allows him to learn in the classroom.
