Friends, supporters, volunteers, we have just a few hours left of this Kentucky Gives Day (less than 5, actually!). Here’s how we’re doing so far: we are 73 motel rooms away from meeting our goal in preparation for the next emergency shelter season. Wow! Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who has already made a gift 🙏

None of the work we do winter after winter happens without community support. None of it happens without YOU.

Room In The Inn Berea served 185 guests who are your neighbors. Our statistics are clear: 76% of them had lived in Madison County for more than 1 year. We want to break down the myth that these people are strangers. They're members of our community who needed a safe place to land in the freezing winter temperatures.

We're a little bit halfway through Kentucky Gives Day and every dollar is adding up. As of noon, we've raised $1,478 toward our $8,510 goal. That's 32 motel rooms funded.

To put $8,510 in perspective: just $46 provides one motel room for a neighbor with nowhere else to go. Last season, we provided 2,457 motel rooms across 75 nights of emergency shelter. That's 2,457 times a neighbor had a warm, safe place to sleep instead of facing the uncertainty of the coldest winter nights.

I won’t bother you until later tonight, but I wanted to share with you a reason to give between 5 and 6 PM today: the After-Work Boost Match is a one-to-one match on every online gift made during that hour. Give $50, we receive $50. Give $100, we receive $100. The match caps at $100 per gift, so that's the sweet spot, but every dollar above that still goes directly to RITI. It’s KICKOFF TIME!

To start off strong, we’re throwing it back to February when one of our incredible volunteers, Kim, organized a superbowl party for our guests! Kim has spearheaded many efforts to put meaningful touches into the meals served to guests and brought so much joy to RITI’s work!

We can’t do what we do without volunteers like Kim. And we can’t do what we do without donors like YOU!

ONE day left till ! Room In The Inn Berea has ONE central mission “to provide hospitality and emergency shelter to our unhoused neighbors in the winter months.”

For 8 years—through changing models, leadership, and new challenges every season—we have been united in this mission. And we couldn't do it without you. Together, we have fed guests, sheltered guests, and collaborated with countless volunteers and donors. In the early days, mattresses were moved from church to church and bedding washed every night of the season. In our most recent one, we even delivered food over iced parking lots.

For 8 years now, we have been dedicated to ensuring that none of our neighbors freeze to death in the winter months.

Our fundraising goal of $8,510 would cover one night of hotel rooms for 185 guests, which is the number of unique individuals we served during Season 8.

3 days left until !

Our fundraising goal of $8,510 for this Kentucky Gives Day would not even cover 3 days of emergency operations during this last season. When temperatures are below freezing and weather is inclement, RITI enters into emergency operations where we pull out all the stops to ensure we serve as many guests as possible.

At the height of season 8, during the coldest, snowiest nights, our guests were staying at 3 different hotels in Berea. Our board members and other volunteers had to get very creative with gathering and distributing meals (but did so with smiles on their faces- shout out to Walter who is featured below)!

During the winter storm, just one night of hotel rooms for all our guests cost around $3,200. But when we put out emergency calls for donations to meet the critical need, our community came through! And because of your generosity, we were able to provide about 85 guests shelter during the winter storm across multiple days.

And we are getting ready to do it all over again- but we need YOU!

🌼 As we get closer to , we are reflecting on sweet moments from past seasons. 🌼

In February of 2023, during the middle of our 5th season of Room In the Inn, we were already seeing signs of spring time- and signs of hope. One of our guests came into our room in Union Church for dinner and brought with her a bouquet of beautiful handpicked flowers. She brought tears to the eyes of the volunteers as she said she had picked them with hope that she could bring even just a little brightness into their day, since RITI had brought much light into her life. 💛

Remember: we are only able to provide bright moments to our guests, our volunteers, and our community because of YOUR gifts and support!

THANK YOU to our friends and neighbors who have already shown up for RITI days before our actual giving holiday!

So far, we have raised enough money for 9 rooms for one night- about 5% of our total fundraising goal. And we’re EXCITED to see that number grow across the next few days!

Kentucky Gives Day is coming on Tuesday, May 12! 🎉 Kentucky Gives Day is an opportunity for Kentuckians, near and far, to come together to make donations to Kentucky charities in an effort to raise as much money as possible in 24 hours.
BUT! You can also give NOW!

Our board is already in friendly competition on their fundraising pages (shoutout to board member Patience for leading the way)! Now, we're challenging YOU. 🫵

Before or on May 12: text 10 people in your community and ask them to give to Room in the Inn Berea in honor of Kentucky Gives Day. That's the whole ask. Every name in your phone is an opportunity to keep a neighbor warm this upcoming winter season and to broaden our organization's reach.
