🌪️ Know the Difference: Tornado Watch vs. Tornado Warning

Severe storms are expected to move through parts of Kentucky over the next few hours, and storms earlier today have already produced multiple tornado warnings across the state. It’s important to know the difference between a Tornado Watch and a Tornado Warning so you can react quickly if needed.

🔎 Tornado Watch
A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop in and around the watch area. Storms may produce tornadoes, but one has not been confirmed yet.
➡️ Stay alert, monitor the weather, and have a plan in case conditions worsen.

⚠️ Tornado Warning
A Tornado Warning means a tornado has been spotted or indicated by weather radar.
➡️ Take shelter immediately in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor away from windows.

✅ Quick Safety Tips
Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.
Identify a safe place in your home ahead of time.
Avoid windows and large open rooms during warnings.

If you are in a vehicle or outside, seek sturdy shelter as soon as possible.

BVFR crews are monitoring conditions and ready to respond if needed. Please stay weather aware this evening and take warnings seriously.

Stay safe, Berea. 🚒

February 15th begins spring fire season with limitations for open burning issued by the Kentucky Division of Forestry. This is not a burn ban, merely limitations to help prevent grass and wildland fires. Help us keep Berea safe.

🔥 National Burn Awareness Week | Feb. 1-7, 2026 🔥

This week, Berea Volunteer Fire & Rescue is recognizing National Burn Awareness Week, organized by the American Burn Association.

The 2026 theme, “Burn Prevention Where You Live, Work, and Play,” highlights that burn injuries can happen anywhere at home, on the job, or during everyday activities.

Common burn hazards include hot surfaces, boiling liquids, machinery, hazardous materials, and electricity. Taking small, proactive safety steps can help prevent serious injuries.
