A special thank-you to the Bergenfield Stigma Free and Barrier Free Committees for providing these sensory kits to the Bergenfield Police Department. CommUNITY.
The Bergenfield Police Department is now equipped with sensory kits generously donated by the Bergenfield Stigma Free Committee and Barrier Free Committee, helping support neurodivergent individuals and members of the Autism community during interactions with law enforcement.
đźš” Why are sensory kits important?
Interactions with police can sometimes be overwhelming, particularly during high-stress or emergency situations. For individuals with autism or other sensory processing differences, flashing lights, loud sirens, unfamiliar surroundings, and unexpected interactions can contribute to sensory overload, anxiety, or difficulty communicating.
Sensory kits provide tools that may help individuals feel more comfortable, reduce sensory stress, and facilitate communication during these challenging moments. While every individual has different needs, having these resources available can make a meaningful difference in helping officers provide more compassionate, patient, and understanding support.
💙 This initiative reflects Bergenfield’s continued commitment to accessibility, awareness, and inclusion. By working together, our Police Department and community committees are helping ensure that residents of all abilities feel supported, respected, and safe.
A special thank-you to the Bergenfield Stigma Free and Barrier Free Committees for their thoughtful donation and continued dedication to making our community more inclusive for everyone!
Together, we are building a Bergenfield where understanding makes a difference and everyone belongs.
