***Snow emergency has been lifted***

❄️🚨Due to the impending snow storm, effective 4:00 PM today, Snow Emergency ordinance 299-12 will be ENFORCED until further notice. There is no parking permitted on any streets in the Borough of Bergenfield. Please remove all vehicles from the roadway so the DPW can safely operate. Vehicles left on the roadway are subject to summonses / towing.

🚨Overnight Parking Enforcement will be SUSPENDED until Sunday 1/4/26. Enforcement will resume on Monday, 1/5/26.

📲💻 There is no need to call your vehicle in or enter it in the online parking portal during that time.

We wish everyone a Happy Holiday season and hope it is a safe and enjoyable time with your families.

In case of inclement weather (snow/ice), this will be rescinded and all vehicles must be removed from the road to allow for proper clearing of the roadways. A snow emergency will be announced if necessary.

This is a special message from the Borough of Bergenfield. The State of New Jersey has declared a state of emergency beginning tomorrow, Saturday, October 11, at 10:00pm, due to the upcoming weather. Heavy rain and wind is forecast for our area beginning this Sunday. Residents are urged to monitor weather forecasts and prepare for potentially hazardous conditions by bringing inside or tying down outside furniture and decorations, and avoid walking outside during heavy wind, and staying alert for falling trees or downed wires. OFFICIAL STATEMENT
From the Borough of Bergenfield

The Borough of Bergenfield condemns in the strongest terms the recent violent assault on a rabbi in our community. This was a disgraceful act of violence that has no place in our town and will not be tolerated.

The suspect is currently in custody. Based on the initial investigation, the individual is not a Bergenfield resident but came from out of town. Our Police Department is working in close coordination with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office to ensure that the suspect is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Let us be clear: any act that threatens the safety of our residents will be met with the full force of law. We will do everything necessary to protect this community and uphold the values of safety, civility, and respect that define our community in Bergenfield.

The police presence throughout the Borough has been increased, and all necessary security measures have been implemented. We encourage anyone with information to contact the Bergenfield Police Department.

This remains an active investigation, and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

Bergenfield stands united. We will not be intimidated. We will not rest until justice is served.

UPDATE::

The incident occurred in the area of Sussex Road. The actor, identified as Jeffrey Zicchinella, 40 year old male out of Ridgefield Park, NJ was traveling in his vehicle when he exited his vehicle and assaulted the Rabbi. During the altercation. A nearby resident came to the assistance of the Rabbi who was being assaulted. As a result of the assault, both of our residents suffered minor injuries. Due to the quick actions of our residents and the Bergenfield Police Department, the male actor was taken into custody and charged with two (2) counts of simple assault and remanded to the Bergen County Jail. We are in consultation with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and stress that this is still an ongoing investigation. We take all reports of bias-motivated or hate-related incidents seriously and remain dedicated to ensuring that everyone in our Borough feels safe and respected. At this time, preliminary findings indicate that this appears to be an isolated incident. We want to assure our residents that there is no ongoing threat to the community. In an abundance of caution, I have ordered our officers to conduct extra patrols around residences and synagogues.

At approximately 2:00 PM today, a faith leader was assaulted in Bergenfield. Thanks to the quick response from residents in the area and the Bergenfield Police Department, the assailant was stopped and taken into custody.
The matter is being investigated so please allow the police time to do their job. At this time, we believe this to be a random, isolated incident.
We extend our concern and support to those affected and stand in solidarity with our local faith community. We remain committed to ensuring the safety, unity, and well-being of all residents.
