🔥 "It's just a mulch pile..." said nobody who saw this one.
Recently, your Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at a local mulch and dirt business. Now, when most people hear "mulch pile fire," they probably picture a small pile in the corner of a garden center.
Not this one.
This pile stood approximately 60 feet high and stretched nearly the width of THREE football fields!
Our primary concern was preventing the fire from extending into nearby cedar trees and threatening surrounding properties. Thanks to the hard work and coordination of responding crews, those exposures were successfully protected.
A huge THANK YOU to all of our first responders and the Fire Marshal's Office for their assistance and teamwork throughout this incident. Kendalia Volunteer Fire Department Sisterdale Volunteer Fire Department Boerne Fire Department and Kendall County Office of Emergency Management & Fire Marshal
One thing many people don't see is that the call doesn't end when the trucks leave the scene.
After spending many hours battling the fire, firefighters return to the station where the work continues: Cleaning hundreds of feet of hose, Reloading apparatus, Inspecting and servicing equipment, Refilling water and supplies✅ Ensuring every truck is ready for the next emergency
Only when everything is cleaned, checked, stocked, and back in service is the call truly complete.
So the next time you see fire trucks heading back to the station, remember: the emergency may be over, but the work isn't.
Thank you to all the volunteers, firefighters, first responders, and support personnel who put in the extra hours to keep our community protected—both on the fireground and back at the station. ❤️ Photos provided by BergheimVFD and Kendall County Office of Emergency Management & Fire Marshal
