Environmental Commission to give away free native plant seeds at Winter Walk

Berkeley Heights residents, you are invited to visit the Environmental Commission table at the Winter Walk on December 6, where you can receive free native plant seeds, commit to making sustainable choices by signing the BH Green Challenge pledge, and sign up for a tree in the right of way in front of your house!

The Berkeley Heights Environmental Commission was established to protect, develop or use natural resources, including water resources within the Township. The Environmental Commission is an advisory group of volunteers with the responsibility to recommend plans and programs to the Planning Board for the development and use of open lands and wetlands. The members receive free training in environmental matters.

How Berkeley Heights Residents Can Help Make the Community More Sustainable

The Berkeley Heights Environmental Commission is asking residents to show how they are making the township more sustainable by taking the Berkeley Heights Green Challenge Pledge. “Sustainability is all about doing things to make the world better for future generations,” said Commission Chair Richard Leister.

The Green Challenge consists of ten simple actions that will help with flooding, energy efficiency, saving money, waste, and air pollution. You don’t have to pledge to every action, but we are counting on you to follow through with pledges you do make!

You can find the pledge here: https://forms.gle/VjKxb1k9wumGGepw7

The goal is for at least 2.5% of the residents to pledge that they will complete these actions.
“Maybe you already do many of these actions,” said Mr. Leister. “ If you do, then let us know by taking the Green Challenge pledge. If you don’t, maybe you can do them.”

If you have any questions or need help, please email [email protected].

The Berkeley Heights Environmental Commission is challenging residents to participate in a community effort towards sustainability. You can help by filling out this pledge. We will track and share the results. Our goal is a participation rate of at least 2.5 percent of the town.

It’s Always a Good Time to Protect Our Waterways 🍂

🍂 Fall is here — and it’s the perfect time to clean your drain!

As leaves start to fall and autumn rains pick up, storm drains can quickly become clogged with debris. Taking a few minutes to clear your adopted drain helps prevent street flooding and keeps pollution out of our lakes, rivers, and streams.

Last week was Stormwater Awareness Week — a great reminder that small actions, like cleaning a drain, have a big impact on water quality in our communities. Even though the official week has passed, at Adopt-a-Drain, we know it’s always the right time to take care of stormwater and protect our local waterways.

Whether you’ve just adopted your first drain or you’ve been caring for one for years, your efforts are part of something bigger. Together, Adopt-a-Drain participants are approaching an amazing milestone...
