⚠️ ⛈️ The US National Weather Service New York NY has issued a Flood Watch for our area from today at noon until 11 PM tonight.
➡️ A period of heavy rainfall is possible as showers and potential
thunderstorms move through the area. Total rainfall amounts are around 1 to 1.5 inches in the watch area, but some areas could receive up to 3 inches with peak rainfall rates between 1.5 to 2.5 in/hr.
Remain alert for changing weather conditions, and NEVER DRIVE THROUGH FLOODED ROADS! Turn Around, Don't Drown.
🚙 Avoid unnecessary travel.
⚡ ALWAYS assume downed power lines are live. NEVER TOUCH THEM! Call 911 to report a downed power line.

⚠️ ⛈️ The threat for flash flooding is increasing this afternoon into tonight with portions of the area now under a moderate risk for excessive rainfall. The threat of strong storms is also a possibility.
🚙 Travel disruptions are increasingly likely for the evening commute as some roads may flood later today in addition the potential for wind damage such as downed trees and wires from any severe weather.

🚒💧 Last night’s drill consisted of several elements focused on moving and deploying high-volume water for fires involving larger buildings or multiple structures. Both of the department’s high-volume engines, Engine-4 and Engine-1, were utilized. Engine-4 was positioned as the attack engine and flowed water from its 1,500 GPM monitor, along with a smaller Blitz Fire monitor. Engine-1 operated as the supply engine, laying 200 feet of five-inch supply hose from a fire hydrant to provide the large volume of water needed for the operation. Another component of the drill focused on the use of a manifold, or portable hydrant. This piece of equipment can be used when a high volume of water is needed quickly, helping to provide additional options for establishing a water supply. Members also received hands-on training deploying the Blitz Fire monitor, which can be used to quickly deliver a large volume of water to protect uninvolved exposure buildings from fire extension. The drill also provided our engineers with valuable hands-on experience operating the pumps on both engines. Regular training with this equipment is essential to ensure our members are prepared to efficiently establish a water supply and deliver the large volumes of water necessary during a major fire.

🚒📚The Berkeley Heights Fire Dept was proud to welcome students and teachers from the Han academy for a special visit to the fire station.
From exploring the fire trucks and learning about fire safety to meeting firefighters and seeing how the station operates, the students had an unforgettable experience.
These visits are about more than fire safety—they are about building connections, strengthening community relationships, and showing our youngest residents that the fire station is their home too. The U.S. Fire Administration has collected national fire incident data for more than 50 years through the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS), which was recently retired. As of May 1, 2025, the Berkeley Heights Fire Department (BHFD) began reporting its incidents through the new NERIS Data (National Emergency Response Information System) , which has replaced NFIRS. For the first time, national fire incident data is now publicly available through NERIS. The data can be accessed without a login or request process and does not expire. The publicly available dataset is refreshed multiple times per week and includes a trailing 15 months of data, with a 60-day reporting window.The dataset includes many of the fields most commonly used for fire service analysis, including: Incident type, Date and time, Location, and Actions taken This provides an unprecedented opportunity for the fire service, researchers, emergency management professionals, and the public to examine current national emergency response data.

⚠️ ⛈️ The NOAA NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued A Severe Thunderstorm Watch for our area until 9 PM tonight.
💨 The primary threat is locally damaging winds. In addition, locally heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding, particularly in areas prone to poor drainage or flooding. Please remain weather-aware, monitor updates from the National Weather Service, and be prepared to seek shelter if a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is issued for our area.
⚡ Any storm can contain lightning strikes and brief heavy downpours.
📲Have multiple ways to receive warnings, should one be issued!
🏠 When alerted to a storm, get inside a sturdy building immediately
🚫 Stay away from windows once indoors
🚗 If a building isn’t nearby, get inside a vehicle

🚒 Over the past week, the Berkeley Heights Fire Department responded to 14 fires and emergencies.
🔥 Among those responses was a vehicle fire on Interstate 78 East near the Diamond Hill Road on-ramp. The driver was able to safely evacuate the vehicle before firefighters arrived.
⛈️ During Friday’s severe thunderstorm, firefighters responded to a tree that had fallen onto power lines and an occupied vehicle. The vehicle’s sunroof was shattered by the falling tree. Fortunately, both occupants were uninjured.
🧑‍🚒 Firefighters also responded to a local business where a worker fell from a ladder while repairing a garage door, sustaining a serious injury. Members assisted the Berkeley Heights Volunteer Rescue Squad on Rescue-1 with gaining access to the patient. Firefighters used a pry bar to displace the garage door, allowing the ladder to be removed and providing EMT's with better access to the injured worker. The patient was subsequently transported to a trauma center.
🚨 On Thursday, Squad-2 responded to the the Mt. Bethel Fire Company Fire Station with Stirling Fire Company No. 1 to provide coverage for Warren while Warren firefighters operated at a structure fire.
The department also responded to a reported house fire on Fairview Avenue during Friday’s storm. Fortunately, there was no fire. The report was the result of a misinterpretation of an image from a Ring camera.
🔸 These incidents are a reminder that our firefighters can be called upon for a wide variety of emergencies, often with little warning. We thank our members for continuing to answer the call and provide assistance to our community and our neighboring departments.
