This week marked the first week of enforcement of Berkeley Heights' new e-bike ordinance. Officers focused on education and issued warnings to riders observed violating the ordinance.

Our goal is not to issue summonses, but to ensure everyone can enjoy a safe summer. We will continue to enforce the ordinance to help keep our community safe.

We appreciate the cooperation shown by our riders and their parents during this first week of enforcement. Thank you for helping us keep Berkeley Heights safe.

School’s out for summer, and our Safe Rider Program is back!

Thank you to our generous local businesses—Clemente's Pizzeria, Dimaio's, Dunkin', Sam I Am Bagels, Craft Bagel Co., and Cousins Convenience & Deli—for donating rewards for Safe Rider ticket vouchers to kids our officers observe riding safely in the community.

Kids who are caught wearing a helmet and riding safely may receive a voucher redeemable for a special treat at our generous local businesses!

BHPD CamPartner Community Camera Registry

This voluntary registry is to assist us in contacting residents and business owners of surveillance cameras, including doorbell cameras, during time sensitive incidents and investigations. Register by providing your contact information, and if an incident occurs in your neighborhood, we may call you to ask you to help by checking your cameras. Thank you to our crossing guards for your hard work, dedication, and service throughout the school year. Even through severe winter weather, our crossing guards remained committed to keeping our students and families safe each day. We appreciate all that you do and wish you a safe, relaxing, and well-deserved summer!

A special thank you to Rita Peyton, who is retiring after nine years of service. Wednesday will be her last day serving our community on Fairfax Drive in front of Mountain Park School, where she has not only helped keep students safe but has also become a cherished part of the school community.

We also extend our gratitude to Thomas Gadosky, who recently retired after nine years of dedicated service as a crossing guard, and to Oleksandr Manchenko, who, although with us for only one year, made a positive impact on our community. Best wishes to all three of you, and thank you for your service to Berkeley Heights. You will be greatly missed.

On Friday, officers proudly participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of Special Olympics New Jersey.

Pictured are officers from the New Providence Police Department, Berkeley Heights Police Department, and Long Hill Township Police Department. We are honored to join our law enforcement partners in carrying the Flame of Hope and supporting the incredible athletes of Special Olympics.

The Berkeley Heights Township Council has adopted a new ordinance regulating the use of electric bicycles, electric scooters, and motorized bicycles.

Over the coming weeks, the Berkeley Heights Police Department will be enforcing these regulations. Our goal is education and safety, but violations may result in enforcement action.

Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the new rules and ride responsibly. Together, we can keep Berkeley Heights safe for everyone.

Yesterday, we gathered as a community to remember and honor the brave veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country during our Memorial Day ceremony.

We also recognized the retirement of Lt. Gaffney on his final day with the Berkeley Heights Police Department after more than 20 years of dedicated service to the township he proudly grew up in and protected.

Yesterday also marked Lt. Gaffney’s final Memorial Day parade marching alongside the Berkeley Heights Police Department Honor Guard — a tradition and presence that will truly be missed.

Thank you, Lieutenant Gaffney, for your service to both our country and our community. We wish you a healthy and happy retirement.
