In a time when attacks on both LGBTQIA+ and the disabled community are devastatingly common, pride is a radical act of resistance in a world that too often tells us to hide…to be less visible… less disabled… less queer… less ourselves.

In her poem ‘You Get Proud by Practicing,’ disability rights activist and poet Laura Hershey reminds us that pride is not something given to us by others but it is something we can actively build with small but powerful actions. She writes:

"Remember, you weren’t the one who made you ashamed, but you are the one who can make you proud. Just practice."

Hershey's poem reminds us that pride grows through action: speaking our truth, finding community, challenging injustice, expressing love, and refusing to disappear.

This Pride Month, we join our community in practicing pride through advocacy, connection, visibility, and the ongoing work of creating a more inclusive world.

Mother's Day was yesterday, but you can still do something to celebrate mothers everywhere!

April is Autism Acceptance Month. Autism is a developmental disability where people experience the world differently, through how they think, perceive, and interact with the world. Despite the way we may see or hear autism talked about, there is no one way of being autistic. Adults, people of color, and girls and women do not always get the support they need because of stereotypes around autism. We can make it a better experience for all by learning about autism and ways to make our programs more accessible for autistic individuals and their families. Public parks and playgrounds serve as vital hubs for parent-child play, social inclusion, and community participation. Despite their importance, these recreational areas often remain inaccessible and unusable for individuals with disabilities. In addition, information about features like the location of accessible bathrooms, seating, available shelter and shade, and transportation access is often difficult to find for neighborhood parks. We are excited to announce that Through the Looking Glass has created the Accessible Playgrounds for Parents with Disabilities Project,

In March 1988, Gallaudet University Students sparked a movement that reshaped Deaf History. For 8 days, they marched, rallied, and shut down their campus until the board agreed and the current "Hearing" President resigned and appointed the University's first Deaf president.

Deaf President Now wasn't just a campus protest; it was a declaration of Deaf leadership, culture, and self-determination.
