⏳Take a trip back in time with the Berkley Historical Museum 🕰

Located in the old Fire Hall at City Hall, the Museum is the hub for learning about the City's History. The Museum is run by the Berkley Historical Committee. Committee members volunteer their time to help curate and run the museum, as well as any events tor activities the museum is hosting, like the upcoming Fall Lecture Series!

Join them every 3rd Friday of the month through December at the Berkley Community Center to learn more about Berkley history and beyond. Tickets are $10 and are available through the Parks & Recreation registration portal, by calling (248) 658-3335, or by paying at the door on the day of the event.

At the most recent City Council meeting, an Ordinance was adopted restricting Bike, E-Bike, E-Motor/High-Powered Moped Devices*, and Electric Scooter/Skateboard use in Berkley. The ordinance will go into effect on Wednesday, September 16. Visit berkleymi.gov/ebikes for more information!

As the school year kicks off, we know that you're excited to share all about your student's first week back! However, School Resource Officer Arney is sharing a reminder to protect your child's privacy.

Before you publish your social media post, double-check that you're not publicly sharing any personal information, such as:
· School name or location
· Grade level or age
· Teacher names or classroom
· Physical details like height or weight
· Personal clues (ex., answers to security questions)

City Manager Crystal VanVleck gave a brief recap of the City's projects over the past quarter. Visit berkleymi.gov/strategicframework to learn more!

Jason Godfrey, CEO of Better City, gave a presentation on potential strategies that could shape the future business environment of Berkley. This presentation gave a few examples of ways that land could be developed in Berkley to provide more housing opportunities and business spaces, while keeping parking and cost limitations in mind.

City Manager VanVleck presented the second reading of an ordinance amendment intended to promote the safe coexistence of all users of the public right of way by directing bicycles, e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-skateboards to appropriate travel areas as state law allows, while preserving sidewalks and downtown pedestrian spaces and parks for their intended use. The rapid growth in use of e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-skateboards has introduced new safety concerns that this Ordinance hopes to intercept before any major incident occurs. The Ordinance has been adopted and will go into effect in 30 days, but can always be amended as necessary to better serve the needs of the community. City Council voted to move the originally scheduled Monday, September 14 meeting to Tuesday, September 8 to accommodate for the Labor Day holiday without creating back-to-back Council meetings.

Here are some highlights from the event this year!

Thank you so much to the Berkley Department of Public Safety, Berkley Parks & Recreation, and Public Works teams for making this event possible. Their months of planning helped to create a fun and safe event for all to enjoy.

An extra special thank you to Roseland Park Cemetery for being the car staging area for this annual event, and to the 280 participants who registered their vehicles for the parade this year.

Thank you to those from Berkley and beyond for coming together to join us in celebrating the legacy of automotive appreciation in Michigan.
