🇺🇸 Berkley Police Department – Memorial Day Weekend Recap 🇺🇸

The Berkley Police Department would like to thank our community for a generally safe Memorial Day weekend as we honored those who gave their lives in service to our country.

It was a busy weekend for officers, who remained active throughout the town to ensure public safety. Over the course of the holiday weekend, the department made 3 arrests, including 2 for Operating Under the Influence (OUI), and issued 4 criminal complaint summonses.

We remind all residents and visitors that impaired driving puts lives at risk. If you plan to celebrate, please do so responsibly and arrange for a safe ride.

As always, we appreciate the continued support and cooperation of our community. Stay safe, Berkley.

🚨 Berkley Police Department – 911 & Dispatch Information 🚨

We’d like to take a moment to provide clarity on how our dispatch and 911 services operate here in Berkley—especially following recent questions.

📍 Local Dispatch Matters

We are proud to have our own dispatch center right here in town. At any given time, there is one dispatcher on duty, working hard to answer every call as quickly and efficiently as possible.

👤 One Dispatcher, Many Responsibilities

It’s important for residents to understand that the same dispatcher who answers your 911 call is also responsible for dispatching police, fire, and EMS, as well as answering the department’s door and handling all non-emergency/business line calls.

There are no additional personnel in dispatch—just one highly trained professional managing all of these responsibilities at once.

📞 How 911 Calls Work

When you dial 911 from a cell phone or landline, your call will almost always route to the closest Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP)—which includes Berkley. Calls are directed based on the nearest cell tower or location.

⚠️ Important Note on VoIP Phones

Some internet-based landlines (VoIP) do not automatically provide your location unless you manually register it. If not set up correctly, these calls may be routed to a national 911 center instead of our local dispatch. We strongly encourage residents using VoIP services to ensure their address is properly registered.

📵 Business Line vs. Emergency Line

Our business line is NOT for emergencies.
If multiple 911 calls are coming in, the business line may go unanswered.

Always call 911 in an emergency so you get immediate assistance.

🔁 Backup Support is Always Available

If a 911 call is not answered within 20 seconds because our dispatcher is already on another emergency call, it is automatically routed to our partner (backup) PSAPs.

✅ Your call will always be answered
✅ Help will always be dispatched

💙 Thank You

We appreciate the continued support, understanding, and trust from our community. Our dispatchers and first responders work hard every day to serve Berkley with professionalism and dedication. Thank you for standing behind us.

At approximately 4:17 PM today, Berkley Police, Berkley Fire, and EMS responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Myricks Street and Church Street.

Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting the crash and efficiently coordinated police, fire, and EMS response, as well as contacted three surrounding communities to secure mutual aid ambulances.

We would like to remind all motorists to use caution when traveling through this area. Please be sure to come to a complete stop at the stop signs on Church Street and only proceed when it is clear and safe to enter or cross Myricks Street.

Additionally, please remember to always wear your seat belt and ensure all passengers are properly restrained—seat belts save lives.

Your attention to traffic laws and safe driving practices helps keep everyone in our community safe.

🚨 Berkley Police Department Update 🚨

The Berkley Police Department is pleased to announce that our new speed trailer—recently purchased through a traffic safety grant—has now been deployed on town roads.
Earlier this year, the department was awarded $23,102.32 in funding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), through the Massachusetts Office of Grants and Research (OGR), as part of the FFY26 Municipal Road Safety Program. This funding supports both traffic enforcement efforts and the acquisition of safety equipment.

A portion of this grant allowed us to purchase the new speed trailer, which not only displays vehicle speeds in real time to encourage safer driving, but also collects valuable historical data. This includes the number of vehicles traveling through an area and the speeds of those vehicles over time.

This information will help us better understand traffic patterns and identify areas where additional enforcement or safety measures may be needed.

The remaining grant funds will be used to support additional officer staffing for targeted traffic enforcement during state-approved safety mobilizations, further enhancing our efforts to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities on Berkley roadways.

👏 A special thank you to Lieutenant Realini for successfully writing and securing this grant on behalf of the department. We also extend our appreciation to the OGR team for their continued support of traffic safety initiatives across the Commonwealth.

We encourage all motorists to slow down, stay alert, and do your part to keep Berkley’s roads safe for everyone. 🚔

🚔 National Police Week 🇺🇸

This week, the Berkley Police Department proudly joins communities across the nation in recognizing National Police Week, a time dedicated to honoring the courage, service, and sacrifice of law enforcement officers.

National Police Week was established in 1962 and is observed each May to pay special tribute to officers who have lost their lives or been disabled in the line of duty, while also recognizing those who continue to serve with dedication and professionalism every day.

At the heart of National Police Week is Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15, a day of solemn remembrance for the fallen and support for their families and colleagues.

Across the country—and especially during ceremonies in Washington, D.C.—officers and communities come together for events such as candlelight vigils and memorial services to ensure these sacrifices are never forgotten.

We are grateful for the unwavering commitment of our Berkley officers, who serve our town with integrity, compassion, and bravery.

We also thank our residents for your continued support of law enforcement during National Police Week and throughout the year.

💙 Behind every badge is a story of service, sacrifice, and family.

Please take a moment this week to remember the fallen and thank those who continue to serve.

Today, the Berkley Police Department would like to wish a very Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms in our community and beyond. 💙

To the mothers who protect, nurture, teach, and lead with patience and strength—your love shapes families, neighborhoods, and futures in ways that can never be fully measured.

We also want to recognize the strong mothers within our department and the families who support our officers every day. Your sacrifices, encouragement, and care make our work possible, and we are deeply grateful.

Whether you are a mom, stepmom, grandmother, aunt, mentor, or someone who fills a motherly role—today we celebrate you.

Thank you for all that you do, today and every day. We wish you a Mother’s Day filled with love, appreciation, and peace. 🌷
