5th Graders at Berkley Public Schools were given a Citizen Action Project (CAP) as their final project in history class this year. It was amazing to see all the good deeds, fundraisers and lessons learned from this project. Luke Lefaivre chose Open Shelves Food Pantry for his project. After years of volunteering he decided to educate the public and his classroom on alternative healthy items to donate to the pantry in lieu of high sugar, high salt packaged foods. He took his 3D printing skills and created fidgets with his own supplies. He sold them at the Berkley Common Store and raised $300! He also learned a lesson in budgeting money and deciding on which items he could buy to supply to the families this month. After some math he chose to shop for salmon, sweet potatoes and honey. We're so proud of Luke and grateful that he chose our pantry. We love that he took action to supply high nutrition for his neighbors. We also love that he presented the project beautifully and received an A+❤

We extend our sincerest gratitude to Jen Francisco of Berkley Public Schools and Abby Wright, a former Berkley Public Schools student now attending BSU and employed by Surround Care at BCS, for their invaluable assistance with this drive. The remarkable outcome of 1,200 pounds of food from our student's families is a testament to their dedication to serving their community and the efforts of Open Shelves Food Pantry . We are deeply appreciative! ❤
