School’s back next week!

As students head back to class, please remember that our roads will be a little busier in the mornings and afternoons.

Keep an eye out for school buses making frequent stops, children waiting along the roadside, and students crossing the street. Give yourself a few extra minutes, slow down, and please be patient.

Let’s help get everyone to school—and back home—safely!

The workshop focuses on modern strategies for recruiting and retaining call and volunteer firefighters.

Through the NEAFC SAFER Grant, Berkley Fire/Rescue will also have access to grant-funded resources to help recruit the next generation of call firefighters to serve our community.

Tonight at approximately 9:32 PM, Berkley Fire/Rescue Ambulance 2 was dispatched to a town residence for a mother in active labor. Shortly after arriving on scene, Deputy Chief Knight and Captain Faria safely assisted in the delivery of a healthy baby boy weighing approximately 6 pounds.

Mom and baby were then transported safely to Charlton Memorial Hospital, with the assistance of additional off-duty personnel who responded to support the on-duty crew.

Calls like these are a special reminder that not every emergency ends with lights and sirens, sometimes they end with a baby’s first cry. Congratulations to the family, and welcome to the newest member of the Berkley community!

⚠️ Lithium-Ion Battery Safety Reminder ⚠️

Over the last two months, fire departments across Massachusetts have responded to an increasing number of fires involving lithium-ion batteries, many of them involving e-bikes, mobility scooters, and other mobility devices.

Help reduce your risk by following a few simple safety tips:

🔋 Always use the manufacturer’s battery and charger.
🔋 Charge batteries on a hard, non-combustible surface and never leave them charging unattended.
🔋 If possible, store mobility devices outdoors. If stored indoors, keep them away from exits and anything that can burn.
🔋 Stop using any battery that is damaged, swollen, leaking, or giving off unusual odors or noises.

Lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we use every day. A few simple precautions can help prevent a devastating fire and keep your family safe.

Please help us spread this important safety message by sharing this post.

At approximately 1:50 a.m. this morning, Berkley Fire/Rescue Engine 1 and Car 1 responded on a mutual aid assignment to Dighton for a structure fire on Winthrop Street.

Berkley crews, alongside firefighters from Taunton and Rehoboth, assisted with fire suppression and performed extensive overhaul operations to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

Strong mutual aid partnerships like these ensure neighboring communities can rely on one another when additional personnel and resources are needed most.
